Default Chandeleur Islands

Iím going to be putting together another trip to the islands August/September time frame. Iíve got 5 people that are going to go, just putting some feelers out and see anyone will want to go so we can get the trip filled out. Waiting to hear back from Troy about dates. It will be with Chandeleur Charters on the Compass Rose. We went in September and crushed them. We like to drink and have fun but within reason. Also shoot pigs in the guts so that may change some peopleís mind.

I’m shooting for August. Just depends on how fast I get the group and money together and get it booked. It’s hard trying to get 10 guys to agree on dates, and then you have to get the dates you want. Last year I picked dates, paid the deposit myself and almost didn’t get enough people to go. Lots of people backed out. This year I’ll get deposits first.

Totally understand. September is just way too busy for me to make it.

Yeah that was a problem I had last year. I booked late, and it was all they had available. This year I’m going to book early and hopefully have better dates.

Philip, put me in the list of very interested to pretty much, I’ll go if you allow me.

Let us know what is involved in costs, typical itenerary, etc.

I only have one commitment in Sept. I can not get out of.

If there is a grill, I’ll even bring a ribeye you can steal.

Cost is $675/person for 10 of us plus tip for the deckhands, I’d say $100 for each of them. They do a bunch from cooking to cleaning your fish. All meals and drinks besides alcohol are provided. The food they cooked was good and they grilled us some nice ribeyes one night also. They clean and bag all your fish. Tackle isn’t provided, I’d bring lots of jig heads and plastics, extra rod and reel or two. I thought I had plenty of lures but I ran out. Lol. I’m waiting for a call back from the captain to figure dates out. I imagine it’ll be after the first of the year before I get dates. Once I’ll get dates I’ll get in touch with the people who were interested. But yeah you’re more than welcome to join us.

That's a good deal! Do yall ever beach the boats and fish the surf or the guts? I did the trip I went on and had a blast! Just got to pay attention to all those sharks. Good times!!!

When we went the surf was rough but you if the surf is good then you can fish it. Sharks didnít bother us wading, the guys that drifted had problems with sharks stealing fish. It was my first trip, and it was amazing. Itís a trip I will make every year.

How did you end up there? The last day when the boat comes in, we should be at the dock around 6 or so. Weíll spend the night there and leave the next morning so there will be time. Hell, you could just come hang out on the boat.

There were some big sharks in those guts. I had multiple big reds get sliced in half bringing them in. I had a bunch of pictures from that trip but Harvey ruined all of them.

Your right it's a cool place. I've always wanted to get back out there.

I'd be interested in going with y'all in August if the dates work out. Sounds like you won't have any trouble filling spots this time. Just like our tuna trip though, I know absolutely nothing about catching these fish

I did enjoy going with y'all, learning, and trying to catch a few.

This is way outta my realm..jsyk..Do you take the big boat out,and wade from the lil boats? I have been known to shoot feral hogs through the gut carrier as well..Beer doesn't stand a chance near me,and I will drink the last one without guilt.

we drift fished from skiffs when I went, to many sharks to surf/wade fish on shore at that time. Went with the VI and captain Bobby recommended against it and it's their business to put you where the best fishing is. I think a lot depends on time of year and wind directions whether wading the surf or fishing grass by drift. I liked using drift sock on skiff to slow the drift and fish slower.

Yeah you take the big boat out and that’s your mothership. Sleep, eat, party there. You take the small boats and go do whatever you want. Some of our guys drifted, others waded. Guys wading easily out fished the guys drifting probably at least 4 to 1. Sharks are there, but I ain’t scared. We did drift in the evenings some trying to locate some reds but I prefer wading and we had better luck wading.

The one we went on, Compass Rose, was phenomenal! It used to belong to a middle eastern prince apparently. A quick google search for the compass rose should get you some pictures.
