Default Any TBH Billiards Players?

When i was young,, I plated four or five nights a week but I havent played a game in 25 years until this spring. I had a friend down from oregon and he was league player.. He wanted to find a place to play while here so we eventually found a nice place in Lufkin. Now i hate bars and the smoky atmosphere but got an invite to a private billiards club.

Man have things changed! My eyes are bad, my back hurts, Sure is fun though as Im smitten again with trying to relearn the game.

I have a very nice table in my house but rarely play, I'm waiting on the grandkids to get big enough.

I played a lot in my single days and when my dad had a table.

Haven’t played in several years but still have my old cue. Told my wife that a table is a requirement on the next house we buy.

Growing up we would play 3-4 nights a week at the local bar. They would have tournaments on the weekends and I would pay my entry and play with the adults. Prizes ranged from money to cases of beer to big boxes of premium steaks.

I'll never forget the first time I won the tournament, I had to beat my dad in the finals.

Absolutely love the sport but just have no time or a decent place near me to play

Played almost every day growing up. My older brother used play for big money and he wanted me to play so he could practice. It helped me make a good chunk of money while in college. Lots of drunk cowboys in stephenville who could ride better than shoot pool! Dont like to play much any more since I can see the shots in my head, but the ball never seems to what it is supposed to.

I once though I was petty good and I guess I was. I won lots of tournaments and a little cash along the way. Im right handed but could switch hands pretty well years ago. Now my back is messed up and i cant turn to my right. Im only shooting as a lefty. It sure is frustrating to remember what that cue ball is supposed to do but it just wont do it anymore!

Heck the rules have changed so much Im even having to relearn them! Now safes are common place. Years ago that was called Chicken Chit pool and would start a fight immediately.

That statement about safes is no lie. Growing up I saw many barfights because of it and in college got into many because that was not how pool was supposed to be played. Safes in my eyes are like participation trophies

The thing that got me into more fights than any thing was betting someone they wouldn't get another shot and then knocking in the 8 ball on purpose. Dont know why that ****** everyone off so much.

Agree. I'll get a wild hair to play occasionally but I'm not going to a bar to play. Hate playing on a crappy table. I used to play alot. One of my friends ran a slick Willie's so we were there a few hrs a day for free pool. I used to really enjoy just playing by myself and practicing. How are places charging now and how much is it? By the hour or block or what? Other places we played we could practice for free a night a week and discount on others if you did tournaments. I also suck now. Haven't been serious about playing in many years. Only have one friend that still plays and he's great and still dishes out cash for lessons from a pro occasionally.

I tell you what, spend some time on a snooker table & it makes those small bar tables seem simple...snooker is tough!!

Yet another thing we have in common Steve. I grew up on a pool table. Shot several hours a day for probably 15-20 yrs. Funded many bad habits in college shooting pool. Marriage and children slowed the program then interest slowly drifted away . haven't shot in years now.

The best player I ever went up against was back in my heli skiing days in British Columbia. I thought I was good. Guy cleaned my clock. Humbling.

I never was very good at pool. Had a buddy that was outstanding at it. Running the table on guys at the bar will make them mad. Doing it with the mop handle from behind the bar will get you into a fight every time

I had the same buddy! He would do it with the old string mop hanging off the back just flopping. He only did it when someone came in bragging about their custom cue and how bad the house cues were.

Safes are some of the most brilliant shots you will ever see. They have been around forever, no rules changed. 99% of the people who play pool, have absolutely no idea how the game should be played, or the rules.
If you ever had it all on the line, and you could either just swing away, or play a jam up safe, and trap the guy, what would you do?
Playing for funsies, isn't the same as playing for cash.
Anyone in the Longview area wants to match up, you have $100 a game, 1 pocket action all night, or we can play some $300 or $400 sets of whatever. All 9ft action, no boxes.

Sounds like you are dang good. Im guessing pretty young as well.. The thing about safe shots is that they are well accepted now.. 30 years ago, the same shot would get you blind sided in the jaw.

Im not into the one pocket or 9ft action but if you wanna drive to Lufkin and play on some perfect Diamond pro/am bar tables, Im your huckleberry. Spot me three on a race to ten? after all, Im a beginner again..

I'm not arguing with you that is hasn't been around forever or is a brilliant shot. Simply saying that the place I grew up wasn't playing for "funsies" Any givin weekend, the winnings were big money, steaks, booze etc. The place had certain rules and too keep people from fighting and wanting to play, safes were a no go. You had to attempt to make every shot.

If I was closer to Longview, I would come play with you but that is a hike from here.

Played for a team at South West Texas. (Texas State). Loved it. Took 1st at the TA/M tourney against other colleges. Pretty cool.

Love to play but the first thing that goes is speed and touch..
