Originally posted by txbowman12 View PostI can understand the blowback to some extent, but can someone explain to me why we shouldn’t change the name other than “I don’t wanna”? Hood barely graduated West Point (44/52 in his class with 196 demerits) and was without question very brave (reckless depending on who you ask). He was openly subversive to his commander, writing letters over Johnston’s head to get him replaced.
The move to replace Johnston with hood cost the confederacy Atlanta and made the outcome of the war inevitable. It’s been called the single worst decision by either side during the war.
So I guess his incompetence indirectly makes him an American hero, by bringing the civil war to a more rapid end, but why are you defending the naming of a military base after him, a native Kentuckian who only fought for Texas because Kentucky stayed neutral at the outset of the civil war? That’s who we want celebrated over a native Texan who actually accomplished something?
Just curious to me is all. I’m not saying we should “cancel” people because of decisions they made, I’m just saying if you look at this objectively it makes a fair amount of sense.

If you want to be PC, every MLK street needs to be changed too because he was very outspoken and condemned the gay community. But the problem is leftist pick and choose what's "bad" baded on their chosen agenda.
I remember well the day MLK got his teeth rearranged in Selma Alabama.

At this point its just getting drones and air strikes on target through Special Operators. If we ever have to fight a big boy like China or Russia its gonna take a recall of every Veteran to get the job done.
Friend in the Corps says he walks around all day saluting men in skirts and both services have let standards go to hell.
That is very disappointing, that would have never been acceptable in our day.

No matter what they change the name to, it will always be Hood to those currently in or prior service. And it will always be a cesspool.

This is what I found when I searched "why" it was being renamed...
"We are proud to be renaming Fort Hood as Fort Cavazos in recognition of an outstanding American hero, a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars and the first Hispanic to reach the rank of four-star general in our Army,"
Lt. Gen. Sean Bernabe, commanding general of the III Armored Corps and Fort Hood said in a statement.

And maintenance... whew.... I tell friends to not laugh too loudly about the Russian machine failing due to logistics/maintenance.... we would be lucky to have vehicles running by the time the ships made it across the Atlantic...

I sure don't have a problem with a post being named after Gen. Cavazos. He didn't get where he was due to affirmative action, he earned every bit of it.
The problem I have is the "Why" they are renaming the post in the first place. Gen. Cavazos was inducted into the Ranger Hall of Fame in 1992 for good reason.
I have a feeling that he would be embarassed to have a post named after him for the reasons that they are doing it. My 2 cents.

** Not knocking the Guard or Reserves. Just less likely a Regular would slip through long enough to get that **** big.Last edited by Ætheling; 03-29-2023, 05:58 PM.
