    Long bow or Recurve?

Who determines if a bow is a longbow or recurve? I have a recurve that is 68 inches long and has the shape of a longbow with minimal curving of the limbs. I have another classified as a recurve that has much more curvature. So what are guidelines if any?

Basic definition - it is a longbow if the string does not touch the limbs, whether it's a deflex/reflex design or a "D" style. It sounds like your longbow is the former.

Strung. I shoot a reflex/deflex and unstrung it curves similar to a recurve. Strung it forms a d shape and the string does not touch the limbs.

When the longbow is strung the string only makes contact at the nocks. On a strung recurve, the string lays along the bow limb on the recurved part of the limb.

You may have a semi-recurve such as a late 1950s Bear Polar. The curve is in the last foot or so of the limb. A deflex/reflex longbow has the reflex portion starting at mid limb.
