I made 2 1/2 years as a coach & teacher before getting in HFD. But have taught college fire science on the side for years now and currently assigned to HFD's training academy. You guys who made it the long haul deserve the best retirement ever!! Have a whole family of teachers, principals, ect. The one think I have noticed over the years is in the Fire Department how politically active we are & how much we watch pensions , pay, benefits, & bills that affected us. We have lobbyist who work for us. In teaching I've noticed how no one bans together about benefits & how uninformed most teachers are. There are a few bills in Austin this session that could be devastating to yours & my careers. Look them up! Good luck!

Currently in SA, but I have taught all over the place, including Pleasanton, Uvalde, Navasota, and elementary computer class for a Native American reservation in New Mexico.

I will say some of my roughest positions were in the small towns- especially Navasota! That place makes some of the inner-city schools I have visited seem like well-to-do private schools! lol.

But I am starting to get burned out and have started considering other career options at this time. If you are just starting out- good luck!

I taught Science in middle school for 28 years. Last year I switched to high school
Biology. The majority of my time has been here in Denton ISD, but I did teach for Northwest ISD for 10 years.

Former OC/Head Baseball for 10 years, now DC/Head Track. Teach Algebra 2 and PreCal in East Texas. Can also be on Rayburn in 5 minutes, enjoying it just a little bit.

I can't even get on the job board anymore with them updating it.
