I am a bow hunter 99.99% of the time but at an advancing age (67 in May 2020), I would like to get an all around rifle in case I get an invite to hunt something that I would not be able to hunt with a bow. I have owned a 222, a Weatherby 300 and now the only rifle I have now in a center fire is an AR 223. I have not shot a lot of rifles period. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd go with a 30-06. Some places require .30 cal or bigger.

I'm a big fan of the .270 or go with a .308 Both are close in performance and have been around for sometime.
As far as which brand rifle, I'm sold on the Tikka.Comment

Something along 25-06 or .243 would be my first looks.

I was in the same boat as you for a long time! Is it Texas hunting or maybe out west? My favorites for all around would be 300 wsm, 300 win mag, 280 AI, 6.5 PRC or 7mm-08. All of those would do most anything. Have the boys at apr build you a great gun. It’s nice to have one you love even if stick and string is your thing!Comment

If I were gonna stick to one rifle, it would have to be 7mm to 30 caliber. Not too big not too small. Anything from .280 Rem to 300 mags would fit the bill.Comment
