Default Youth Fairfield sp spike and antlerless hunt

Gearing up for my daughters draw hunt at fairfield lake state park on monday. Took her to shoot the 243 for the first time and she is good to go with the rifle. Let just hope the doe spikes or pigs show. She is allowed two deer and unlimited pigs. We shall see how it goes.

Haven't booked it yet but probably going to grab a hotel in Fairfield. I debated tent camping but with a decent chance of rain Wednesday and Thursday decided against it.

Hopefully the weather holds off for us.

Y'all staying in the park?

Yeah we are gonna camp out. I guess it would have helped to look art weather for Fairfield and not Burleson, lol. Hopefully it doesn’t hit too hard. If you end up changing your mind, shoot me a PM and we’ll share a campfire

Good luck! Remember to take a trainload of patience for these hunts. Everyone is excited and eager to go, but there is a fair amount of paperwork and an orientation. And there may be some very inexperienced folks as well. Stay positive and enjoy the hunt.

LOTS of pigs in that park. Walked some of the trails about a month ago and rooting everywhere. Not just in the low areas by the lake either. Best of luck to her.

We are at stand 13. Rooting all around it. Got the pop up set up with some brush on it. The farthest shot is 46 yards. Wish it was longer distances.

Hoping they have pre-baited the stands for you. They usually do that for the youth hunts.

Nothing for my daughter this evening. Only two hogs were shot on the evening hunt and one missed. Think the people to each side of my daughters stand shot.

Well we had a shot an she shot a little too low. Just white hair on the ground no blood.had a doe and a two point in. Told her to aim a little low on the doe as it was 40 yards out guess she went a little too low. Still sitting and will hunt this evening also.

Hopefully it doesn't sell or the state purchases it, but the way real estate is selling these day I won't be surprised if it's bought privately and developed

They lease the land from the power plant company. It's not the only state park that's a lease either, but some are long term leases like 100 years, Fairfield was shorter term due to the uncertainty with the coal power. The plants now closed and the lease is up in the air about being renewed.

The lease on the park expires last day of October 2020. If the park is sold earlier and new buyer wont release to State, the park lease will end at closing. No offers have been accepted to date. Its gonna take deep pockets to get this property from Vistra. I know 1 developer is trying to get the lake property for private development. Vistra at the time is not interested in letting just the lake property go.

Another big question is who's going to maintain the lake/dam, without it being used for power production, it's projected in a few years it will be a kayak/small craft only lake due to the boat ramps likely being out of the water, probably will make the fishing better due to less pressure though. The lake has a very poor watershed, only thing that kept it up was Vistra pumping in water from the trinity, now that plant is closed they stopped pumping, no financial reason to continue.

Has to be 20 plus kids. I know they have stands that haven't been hunted yet. One doe was shot this morning and another kid missed something. And my daughter shot too low on a doe this morning. We are back at it this afternoon. On a pipeline.

There's 29? Stands I think, they won't use all of them and rotate in new ones for second hunt, the will re-hunt one with reported hot deer activity.
