Default Chandeleur Island 23'

My wife and I had the pleasure of fishing the islands again with an outstanding group of people the last 2 days. Nearly all of which TBH crew. Some on thier first, Some have been before.

It's fair to say, most will be back. Those that weren't able to go, sorry, we had a blast without you

Brent,Bryan, bryce, David, Kelly and Pat. Thanks for joining us. Same for the wives. I'm glad to have shared the trip.

First day was a grind but I think it fell together for everyone the second day. Snowflake found some reds on peckerwood point and dukfvr and the boswells scored trout on just send it!! beach

Thanks again people, looking forward to another already

Don't even know where to start with pics. We took a bunch and I'm sure the gang did as well

Congratulations everyone. Not bad for a group of clones.

I guess I know who is supplying the fish for the pool party.

We spent a ton of money on a Tuna trip out of Venice a couple of months ago. I think a trip like this would be much more funner and probably cost about the same.

excellent trip and thx for sharing. The CI's are truly special and a place where memories are made.

grew up in NOLA and fished the Chandeleur Islands dozens of times each summer during the 1980's. We'd even bring tents and sleep on the islands. My brother still fishes it once every few years and confirmed our favorite spots and campsites have long been gone.

Originally, the CI's consisted of over 11,000 acres in the 1850's. Today, approximately 1,000 acres exist. The State has millions set aside from the BP oil spill. Unfortunately, it would cost $500M plus to rebuild the islands.

the lighthouse was on the northern most point and our meeting spot ... early 1980's

after Hurricane Georges in 1998

pic from around 2004 ~ 2005 (pre-Katrina)

the lighthouse vanished after Katrina

pic of the islands from May 2022 ... 1 year ago

no telling how much longer they'll be in existence ... 5, 10, 20, 50 yrs ?? One day all we will have left is pictures and memories. I WILL fish the Chandeleurs again before I go to heaven.

amazing how Teddy Roosevelt fished the islands 100+ years ago and made it a National Wildlife Refuge

such an amazing ecosystem and worth the price of admission (trip cost)

So true on the islands. The trip alone to see everything is worth it. The fish are icing on the cake!

I've tried to explain this to several people. I wish I could have fished it when Roosevelt did. Or even when my dad went in the 80s
