Default Road trip has begun!!

We left early Friday morning to start our trip. Day 1 was 12 hour drive to Kansas City. We saw a drain silo that had a tree growing out of the top. Thought that sucker had to be in there growing for 15-20 years lol. There were a few rivers flooding pretty good in northern Oklahoma that were cool to see. For dinner stopped and had Arby's for the first time in about 30 years. Wasn't bad but wasn't great. I'd rather have a whataburger any day.

Day 2 was a 10 hour drive that got us up to palisade MN. Before we left we tried a Mexican food place in San Saba. It was no good. But we stopped at Don Pablo's near St. Paul after reading reviews. It was was better. Who would have thought. 😂. We stopped at a scenic overlook at a huge lake about an hour south of Palisade. Looked like an ocean.

Day 3 starting now. We are are Oneeye's sisters cabin. Pretty remote. Barely have any cell service. Going in a few to check out his wife's farm. If I had internet I'd post a link to it. They raise, butcher, sell pigs chickens and lots of things. Going to be very interesting.

I'll try to update better once I get wifi. That should be late tomorrow in international falls

Day 4 - Joe or Oneeye's friend is taking us on a boat ride Going to be an all day event. Hope to start getting more pictures today.

Day 3. Saw the farm. Pigs, chickens, chicks, goats, cows, garden etc. and joes new flat iron huge cooking trailer. He had brunch cooking when we arrived. Home made bacon pancakes blueberry syrup etc. was great. Then we drove out to joes lake place. Took a nice long pontoon boat ride in perfect weather. Stopped and caught a few perch. Then joe cooked chicken and potatoes in cast iron such ovens for dinner right on the lake shore. We sat and relaxed and ate. Now back and fully rested. Ready to start a new adventure tomorrow with joes friend Rich Meeting him in Hibbing Loading up Joe on catfish at the last spring fishing trip is paying off!

Took lots of pictures and got drone footage. Hopefully we have internet soon

Our typical vacation boat ride happened this morning. Rich (Joe's friend) tried taking up Crane Lake to Kettle Falls. It's about an hour boat ride. Well a HUGE storm blew us off the water. Got soaked. It was a fun boat ride where we make new friends. Now we made it to International Falls and it has stopped raining.

Joe's lake

Joe's beach LOL Had to get in close as that's the whole thing.

Crane Lake

Wild rice field/marsh

Joe's sisters cabin

Real pictures are on the good camera.

There's not a lot to do here in I.F. Went to the city beach and drove along the lake. Lots of water up here. Going to relax tomorrow and sleep in for a change then maybe watch a movie at a real theater for the first time in 5-6 years.

Rich's boat = "The Rain Maker!"

I've heard that there is a good Mexican restaurant in IF. May want to look into that.

Update:
Day 4 - Was the rained out boat ride and we finished the drive to I.F.

Day 5 - Rested. Walked the entire downtown I.F. which was a block and a half Went to see a movie and were the first and only ones in the entire building. When the movie started I think there were about 7 people in there. Was a nice theater. We saw The Black Widow. Was pretty good except for the political BS.

Day 6 - Nice 9 hour drive from I.F. to Williston ND. We stopped in Cando ND to eat and it was a super nice surprise. Super small town (like one 4 way stop). People were super nice. Saw 12-15 kids 7-14 years old riding bikes all around. About 10 ended up at The Q (an old converted DQ) which appeared to be the only place to eat for eternity. They were laughing, talking, eating ice cream.. No parents to be seen as they were not needed. And not one single cell phone was seen. It was super refreshing. Made me think about moving there....except I'd freeze in the winter. I didn't know a place like this still existed. Made me think of Stand By Me and other old movies.

Sights we saw.
Green oil fields.

They bale hay all on the sides of the road! Saves money and someone gets hay.

Canola fields

And the view from our BnB here in Williston ND.

Locals thought they were dying from heat. It was 90 a couple of days but didn't feel like Texas 90. Was 87 one day in IF and then 73 the next.

So warm temps. Still a nice get a way from Texas heat.
Glacier National Park tomorrow should be much cooler.

Can't get the computer to connect to WiFI. Grrr

Everyone said the ride from rainy river to glacier would be super boring. I actually like it. The last 3 hours was pretty boring but the first 14 or so I liked. Lots of rolling hills and small towns with lots of farming

We are in east glacier now going for a hike in the morning. Hope to find a good place to eat tomorrow early evening. Only funny thing we saw was a bird chasing a chipmunk across the road. One antelope and one deer.

Over 2k miles driven so far. Drives will shorten from here which will be nice.

We just got back Tuesday morning. Home Ranch Bottoms has had great burgers and even better Huckleberry pie the few times weíve eaten there, which was as recent as Sunday. Itís on the north side of the park a couple miles West of Polebridge.

Back from a LONG hike. Made it to 3 waterfalls. We wanted to see a moose. About mile 11 or 12 when we got back on pavement a moose walked through people's camps. Lol. I mean literally between tents, cars and picnic tables.

Have to decide between chicken fried steak or a 16oz Montanan ribeye. Hopefully can connect and post pictures soon.

Thursday morning just south of the Montana border on highway 93 we dang near hit a young moose. It ran in front of us, the. I turned around, and it ran right back in front of a white F-350. It didnít seem to be the biggest fan of life. Lol first and only moose Iíve ever seen, and it was in Idaho.

Here are some East Glacier pictures.

Everyone seemed really scared of bears and had the bear spray. Even on the main trails where hundreds of people are all day long. Guess people are scared of everything these days. I just wanted to see a bear, but we didn't.

Very first hike. Super short. We were early and first to get there which was super nice. Seeing this first waterfall got us super pumped up to walk to the harder to reach falls.

This was Running Eagle Falls

Then we drove down the road to Two Medicine Lake. We ended up walking around the entire lake which was around 12 miles.

Nice pics RR1, I love that country ! I lived in Williston for a year and got to be in the surrounding countryside every day. (I was inspecting on a pipeline gathering system) Good people up there too, at least they were in 81/82 when I was there. And yes, you’ll freeze your tush off in the winter !

More people have been killed by grizzly bears in Glacier NP than any other park….so I’d say they had reason to be packing some kind of defense. Some great scenery….cool pics! Enjoy the cool air…thanks for taking us along

If you haven’t already headed East of Provo do it for a few hours. The Uintahs are gorgeous!

I’ve done work out around Duchesne and Vernal, and love it out that way. Currently a company out of Kamas is trying to hire me on. Not exactly the worst place in the world to have to visit for work either.
