Not wanting to hijack Toledo's thread. 1988 Johnson 30 hp. Original equipment. Hit the starter switch and engine will make 1/2 revolution, stall for about a second then go at what seems like full speed. The engine starts easily. Toledo's thread has me wondering it I need to replace the starter or relay or both or maybe there is another culprit. Any insight would be appreciated.

My first guess is a tired battery or corroded cables. -
I’d say low battery or bad connection also. I’d try hooking jumper cables to boat battery and to a vehicle and see what happensComment

Clean the brushes on the starter.
Check battery cables and battery amps.
Mine did this cleaned the starter good to go.
