    Moon Pic - First Attempt

Bright full moon out tonight, so I thought I would give it a shot. Thought it turned out OK considering my (lack of) skill level. Anyone have tips or tricks to getting a great shot? May try again tomorrow night.

Thanks guys. Using a Canon 70-200 1.4L USM with 1.4x extender, tripod & remote.

          ISO 100
          F11
          Shutter 1/125

Manual focus was difficult. Maybe my eyes aren't as good as I thought they were

If you have live view, use it to focus. On many cameras, you can zoom the display 5x and 10x giving you more to work with for focusing.

While the full moon is fun to photograph, a not-so-full moon often makes for a better image. When it isn't full, there are more shadows on the moon with the more indirect, less flat, light. It creates a bit more texture on the surface.

              70-200 1.4?

I didn't even know they made such a thing.

I don't even wanna know what that costs. [emoji15]

I wanted to do something different with the Super Moon. Casey and I talked about it yesterday and looked at various locations around town to try to come up with something. I originally wanted to do the Hallettsville Courthouse, which is also lit up with Christmas lights, but when I went to town at lunch I didn't think it would work.

At the last minute, I decided to drive 35 miles to a rig location in hopes of getting a good shot. I'm pleased with the way this turned out, for the most part.

                      Sony A7s II
                      Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS II (w/Metabones Adapter)
Shot in APS-C mode for additional crop

On Casey's suggestion, I shot around f/16 to "star" the rig lights, so I had to bump the ISO to 12,500 and tried to stay around 1/100th second.

As the moon got higher, it also got brighter, which made it hard to get proper exposure on the rig and the moon. I'm not great with editing, but I made a few adjustments in LR until it looked decent on my monitor.

Was hoping to get some supermoon pics tonight, but it's too cloudy as of now. Anyone else have a good view tonight?
