[QUOTE=jer_james;14721963]I think they should be paid more because the burgers they are selling are not $1 anymore. The profit is going in one direction. Billionaires are now raking in trillions - Minimum wage still the same over the same period of time.

You’re going to vote for Bernie, aren’t you?

Yup, and I’m still waiting for my 1099’s from Walmart and Home Depot for doing my own check out. If we are talking $15/hr at 45 mins (billable time) 5 days a week....I figure Walmart alone owes me almost $30k

Exactly. You dont have to work there. I say dump minimum wage altogether. If you and your prospective employer agree on a wage, why should the govt have any say whatsoever? Are we not free men, to negotiate the wage for our work?

Just today I bought items at Lowe's, Walmart, and HEB without interacting with a single employment. That's what I call efficient shopping.

If they double the minimum wage to $15.00 per hour those employees which make $15.00 before the change will want their wages raised back to double minimum wage to $30.00 per hour. Within a short time everyone's wages will double as will prices of everything from hamburgers to cars. In a short time everyone's wages have doubled but their purchasing power has remained the same. Someone has to be at the bottom. What will have changed is the amount of income tax revenue will double and the politicians will put take credit for cutting the deficit in spending until they find something else to waste money on.

Productivity is an individual property that doesn't care about wage minimums. If your production level is at 9 per hour and the least I can pay is 15, I'll trade you for a more productive employee. This raises unemployment at the least skilled levels. I don't think it is inflationary. The relief is fewer employees either by automation or trading for higher productivity. It becomes much riskier to employ people who don't have the skills at the minimum required.

So how this has played out in socialist countries is this:

Government seizes the means of production in key industries and raises wages. Since government is a major employer, there is no unemployment relief valve and private companies have to raise wages to compete. Because government is priming the pump everything goes well until inflation starts (because government isn't concerned with productivity/cost ratios). Once inflation starts prices start to rise, in response, government accuses private companies of price gouging and sets price controls. Private companies react by curtailing production to attempt to remain profitable. This results in fewer models or lower quality until that turnip has been squeezed dry. Then it just becomes lower levels of goods. Government responds by saying private companies are hording and moves to nationalize more industries. This alleviates the problem for a little while until government runs out of reserves needed to pay for imports. Government is now running industries at unsustainable labor rates with lower productivity. They move to devalue the currency in an attempt to inflate their way out. At the same time, they start to make very public examples of non performing employees, mostly govt industrial leaders. At the same time they move to quell the discontent within the press by nationalizing it as well. So the story has gone from the ussr to China to Cuba to Vietnam to Laos to Nicaragua to every other tin pot idiot group who thinks they are smarter than 250 million people making individual decisions on a daily basis, ending with Venezuela, the most raw material wealthy nation on the planet, well, until we discovered fracking.

Ever notice how those who espouse these rules or economic systems never envision living by them. How many socialists leaders have told you, after I pass a 15 dollar minimum wage, I'm going to get a job at McDonalds.

Personally, I'm tired of having my financial well being fondled by these so called concerned citizens.

I just interviewed a young person. (20ish yrs old) no experience in the field. Seemed personable and I was willing to take a chance. I always ask this question in interviews and this typically is the deciding factor for me.

“What are your expectations of me, this company, and how do you see yourself benefitting our team here?”

Person-Well.... idk (literally idk not I don’t know) I need (list was long...) X days paid off, I need multiple breaks when I feel stressed, I need mental health recovery days, I need (higher wages than my 10yr plus employees)

In all that. All I heard was I need I need.... did not explain how they would benefit our team.

In closing the person being interviewed told me this is 2020 and you should pay and care more....

They were to over qualified for me.....

This is the same trend as the Weinstein case. They claim the "rich" holding jobs for ransom can screw the poor by only offering less than deserved and the poor are forced to do it.

Just a easy BS scapegoat for lazy people.

Heck no - I want a flat tax for everything / everyone. I dont believe in anyone paying more. I believe in everyone paying the same.

People that accept Capitalism is the be all / end all amuse me. It's absolutely brainwashed thinking. That's about the only thing that has trickled down.

We are settling, when there is obviously a better way. The CEO/employee gap is insane.

These companies can still make hundreds of millions while paying $15/hr.

My little Brother got a job as a 16 yr old thinking he would pay his car insurance and car payment.

Minimum wage working 20-25 hours a week didn't even cover that.

He's not lazy - he has since graduated from a great college with a degree in Finance.

When your little brother was making this obvious financial screwup, what was your advise to him? OF COURSE working 20-25 hrs at minimum wage didn’t cover a car pymt AND insurance for a 16 yr old driver!!! Where was YOUR RESPONSIBILITY in keeping a 16 yr old brother from making bad decisions?

I remember my dad telling me at 16, that I needed to go get a minimum wage job, so in essence that I could see how crappy the job is, how much little money you net (after the tax man comes by), and how thats a "job" not a career, which is what you need if you want to support a family.

I wasnt the best student at the time. But one summer as a cashier at a local grocery story, I was darn sure I wasnt going to choose that as a career path. Ended up squeaking my way out of school, and got me a degree in fiance.
