      you simply need a chain with a hook on one end. I have two hooks on my tractor bucket or you can get a hitch hook to tie the chain end to. OR you get a pipe big enough to put the hook thru! OR you get a shackle this is small enough to go thru the pipe.... here is a pic if you want to avoid welding but are handy with an agle grinder!

        not sure, but the Mesquite i tried to pull up had a straight root that was well a foot long, seemed like it would come all the way out
        my Tio, said that is why they do good in the dry climate, the root grows down and gets more moisture
