Default Best week in Kansas

If you had one week to hunt in SE Kansas (besides thanksgiving week), what week would you pick?

I've always had good luck the week before the full moon (when the moon is out in the afternoons) and the full moon this year will be 10/31/20. Since I can't predict the weather around then, I was thinking that week since the moon would be right??

I know you said besides Thanksgiving week, not sure if that excludes the week before and after Thanksgiving, but they are my two favorite weeks to be there. If they aren't an option if say the week before Thanksgiving week. I e been hunting Kansas for 17 years and Thanksgiving is the ticket for mature rutting bucks.

To me its the 3rd week in January, I think, when light and dark geese season is open and it's still duck season!

^^^ The reason I excluded Thanksgiving week is because I know I'll be up there then. Was trying to pick another week besides that one. I appreciate the info!

Not sure about your area specifically, but in south-central Kansas Iíve had my best luck Nov. 7-15. A friend whoís killed multiple Booners there tells me never to count on the biggest deer being daylight-active much before Nov. 10. Last year I hunted NE Kansas Nov. 21-25 and it was the worst overall movement Iíve ever seen in that state. In fact l, I saw WAY more deer in Saskatchewan the week prior. Iíve also seen it be really slow Thanksgiving week. Sometimes things drop off quickly after the peak.

With the moon set up as it is in 2020, if thereís decent hunting weather it could be awesome the first few days of November.

I am usually in the stand in Mcpherson Ks on the first or second week or so of November for the past 6 years. I usually try to hunt 4th - 9th and usually have great movement. See alot of deer chasing at this time. Just my experience. I use a decoy and the deer just suck right to it this time of year. Pic was 11/6/18

Save the extra trip going up there and go the week before Thanksgiving and then you will have two solid weeks of kick A55 hunting.

^^^ I wish I could but my work won't allow me to be gone for that long lol. Ive about decided on October 28 - November 8th and then go back on the 18th and stay til the 29th. Surely one of those weeks I can hit part of the rut.

I have tried from Early October all the way through Thanksgiving. In my experience the best time is the second full week. Nov 7-15ish is when I will continue to return. Good luck this fall!!

For 9 years straight I started my Nov. deer hunt in Kansas on the 7th. Was extremely successful using this start date as my go by. Best of luck to you this fall.

This ^. Over the years we found the week before and after the 12th works best for us.

Let me add to this a bit.

Our most successful trips are anything around the 12th-14th. Alot of deer moving, but very few over 4yrs. During this time frame, we generally have a few opportunities each at a nice buck up to 140" with the occasional 150-160
If we can hold off until within 7 days (either side) of Thanksgiving, we see more of our BIG boys on their feet, giving us a better chance at a true GIANT. Here we might bring home 1 or 2 but they are what you go to Kansas for. 4 hunters

My buddy who grew up in Kansas and still hunts several different leases there along with his families land always goes up the first week of November. Usually heads out on Halloween.

If you are hunting a buck that lives on your property the best dates are Oct 27-Nov 5 over food plots or corn. If you are hunting some random buck from miles away roaming during the rut then Nov 22-30. Lock down and the worst time to be in SE KS is Nov 15-22. 14 years experience while logging a lot of stand hours throughout the season.

Personal success dates of mature buck harvest. Sept 18. Nov 2,5,5,19. Dec 30

Biggest buck was Sept 18.

I prefer Nov 3-9 with the 4th and 8th being my 2 favorite days with the 7th being a close second. I compile data every year on kills, misses, sightings from the stand and on the road. With all of that being said, I will be in a tree on Nov 1 and will hunt every day through the 10-12ish or until I shoot one.

if I'm lucky enough to draw this year I hope to head up 11/5 and hunt 11/6 to 11/15. sounds like this should be the right week.

I always try to make it work when I am there on the 10th I feel that is the mid point in our area in northern KS I killed a 184" on the 14th and a 170" on the 8th so somewhere right in there is the wheel house for rut activity, both bucks came to rattle and grunt

Itís really a crapshoot. I hunted the NC area for almost 10 years. Too many factors to dial it down to 1 week, weather, harvest , pheasant opener, etc.
My advice is try be up available or up there anytime between Nov 6-Nov 18. I would usually hunt for at least a week. One day would be dynamite and then nothing for a few days.
