Default Lets see those 16 or short rifles!

Im looking for ideas to build or buy a 18 or less rifle to suppress in 308. Looking for some ideas on them.

Looking at the Remington 700 AAC or the Bergara ridge SP.

Are there any other rifles out there I should be looking at?

I have a 16 inch build I will sell. It is a 1:12 twist so the heavy bullets come in at .75 moa. Shoots better with 150 class stuff. I have had it in the truck for a while. I will pull it out and take a few pictures if you are interested. Rem 700, Triggertech Special, pillars. I will bed it if you want for a few more pesos.

If I were going to build another I go with suppressed weapon systems out of Stafford, TX.

I wish I had some trigger time on one. Integrally suppressed I would probably go 18". They look amazing.

I built this 16.5” 308 for myself a little while back. Had an old 700 action laying around and a 1:10 rock creek that was collecting dust. I call it my Frankenstein since the only thing new on it was the barrel. It’ll shoot...

I have the 700 AAC and like it, and assume you want to suppress this?

I have several 308's. Here are a three I built for the handiness of a short rifle. Two based on a Rem actions and the other on a Salvage action.

I’ve had the AAC’s and they shot well, just heavy to drag around. I’m currently having a stainless Tikka T3 Lite 308 cut to 16” and threaded. It’ll be sitting in an MDT LSS Gen2 chassis and probably wear a Leupold VX-R 4-12x40 Firedot TMR I have that’s been sitting.

Im about to pull the trigger on a Bergara SP in 6.5 or 308. Ive been wanting the 16' Remmy but by the time i replace the stock and trigger, might as well have bought the Bergara. I love my Remington 700's but feel the Bergara has a little more quality straight out of the box.

Absolutely they are better! No doubt. Just that extra length of the Bergara makes a big difference in a 4x4 box blind when trying to go suppressor. I would rather have the Remington unfortunately. I have 3 bergaras and every single one shoots lights out!

Question....would any of you cut the barrel of a sako a7 to 16.5"? I've got one for sale but kind of want to keep it and cut the barrel.

I got a 24 700 from a member on here, with a 24 barrel. Well thats not gonna work in a box bling with a 7 suppressor hanging off the end. So I had 6 cut off, threaded and crowned. Its not the 16 you were talking about, but something else to think about.

My only thing about cutting it vs buying one/building one is the extra cost associated with it. If I could buy one a cut it cheaper I would be going that route.

Love the rifle though

I’ll have to put a tape on it tomorrow for the length.. I really like it. I was frustrated at first with it because it’s very picky with ammo. It likes heavy pills the most. I’m shooting 175gr Federal Edge TLR out of it. Had a few boxes of 165gr ballistic tips I wanted to shoot but it didn’t like them or anything else less than 175gr

Im going back and forth between the Bergara ridge sp and the Remington 700 with the 16.5 barrel. I think the ridge is a better gun, but the extra 1.5 makes a difference when in a box blind

I think I have finally decided... I am going with the Bergara Ridge SP (will be my 5th Bergara) in 308 with the 18" Barrel. I will shoot it for a year or so, and will then cut the barrel to 16", and put it into a KRG Bravo Stock with the AICs Magazines I have 2 other rifles that use this style mags and it is always great.

I just recently got my Custom Dial back from Leupold. Decided to shoot the Bergara ridge SP at 300 to make sure it tracked right. I need to order more ammo so I only shot twice. I highly doubt Ill ever have a longer shot than 300 yards so I believe this will do.

What types of scopes are you all running on these rifles? Since I won't be shooting past 300 yards with this I don't need a high power scope.

kkp005 - I think your on!! Nice shooting!

futureagg - On the 16” 308 above I’m running a Leupold VX-R 4-12x40 Firedot TMR 30mm scope. I wish the scope had a lower power on it, but I’m pretty pleased with it. I think it’s about perfect for up to 400 yds. Past that I like higher power scopes. I’ve got another VX-R 4-12 Firedot TMR on a 22” barreled 6.5 Creedmoor but in my opinion I feel the scope is underpowered for the rifles’s capabilities. Buuuuuuut I could place that blame on my eyes...

Ive been looking at the Vortex Viper 2-10 power. Just the last two vortexs Ive had had issues out of the box. Also have been looking at Athlon Optics, their Talos Line. Ive decided I want second focal plane since It will be a sub 200 yard shot 99% of the time. I dont want to be staring at a small reticle all the time with the first focal plane.

I went with a leupold vx5hd in 3-15x44. It has the firedot reticle. Probably a little to much scope for the distance Ill be shooting but I sure have been impressed with it
