I gotcha. Looking like itís going to stay hot for a while into October. Get those safety harnesses on before taking those afternoon naps! Lol. Not much down here at Aransas NWR except rain, heat, wind and mosquitos. Seen a few does but out of range. Good luck to yíall this evening!

Planning on going out tomorrow morning. Don't have a game cart. There's no rules against quartering and packin out right? Just make sure to bring the tagged head too?

Friendly reminder to use the OSR (On Site Registration) when out there. Also can do it via online at https://apps.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntha.../hunting.faces

Thatís a requirement - and can be fined for not following thru. State Police/Park Ranger took pics of everyoneís vehicle out there when I was leaving.

If anybody finds, or found a small tree stand, climbing stick, and harness, please let me know.
A couple weeks ago I noticed those items were nowhere to be found at home. All I can think is that I left it out at the WMA last January on my last hunt. I pack all my equipment in and out each hunt, so it would be unusual for me to leave it out there, but I was a bit motivated to get out of there by rising water.
The equipment would be on the ground, not in a tree.

thanks, and good luck to all!

Someone hunting #4 is messing with my camera right now. Got a blacked out pic, then a pic of them walking away and Cam is now pointed in a different direction.

Took off work a little early today to go get my stand setup for this cold front coming! Getting my stand setup in a tree and about to pull my bow up when a doe walks within 10 yards of my tree lol. She walks off, and I finally get my bow pulled up and ready to go. Saw another doe and a decent buck(not sure if legal or not) but too far away. Short hunt this evening but hopefully this weekend will be produce.

I'm counting hours till Sat morning. Saw a nice doe on Tue, but it was too far and behind branches. Relocated my stand to a better spot to have a better shot if she shows up again.

I know this is a dead thread, but I figured more people would see it. Lived in central Texas all my life, moved to Abilene this year, and moving back home in 2 years. I was wondering what the deer size and population is like. Iíve seen some pics on this thread that seems like the bigger deer are on the small side. Iím down to hunt anything and look forWard to hunting Somerville when I get back.

All Texas deer are on the small side. Somerville deer are notorious narrow. They are also not nearly as prevalent as in other areas and PHLs.

This weekend had pretty good activity for me, but didnít get to sling any arrows. Had a decent 8pt at 15 yards that was so tempting but based on the short time I had to look at him, I think he was right inside the ears around 12.5Ē inside spread. Plus some pigs about 100 yards away spooked him before I really got a great look. Got some stuff to do this afternoon, Iíll be back out later this week in evening or next weekend.

Hunted two different areas yesterday. In the morning hunt I had two doe about 40 yards. They did not like the Tinks #69 I had out. Maybe a little early for that. Went to another unit after lunch and had at least 10 doe in my area. I brushed myself in and sat on a tree trunk. Had a doe come in at ten yards and went to draw back, only to have a twig from one of the dead limbs I use get jammed in the cam of my bow. Plenty of doe on my cameras and at the spots I hunt but man, where are the bucks?

I meant in regards to Texas. The deer in San Angelo have at least 50 lbs this on the Somerville deer I saw in the forum, and back home in the La Grange/ Shiner area probably 25 lbs.

A mature doe in this region will bring in about 42-50lbs quartered.
Not sure what your saying with 25lbs?

I was saying take a LS deer add 25lbs thatís a Shiner/La Grange deer, and add another 25lbs and thatís a San Angelo deer.
