Sorry guess I should’ve specified I’ve only been out here twice and kicked up 2 small coveys, one in sore finger and one in pecan grove. I guess judging by your responses this is rare. But no they were not meadowlarks, although I did have to take a second look at those at first. But the yellow breast is hard to miss.

There are quail out there, more this year than I've seen in many years. I kicked up a covey between the crescent tank and the gravel pits last week.

The giant raqweed is great quail forage. Never could figure out why there were not more quail out there. Maybe the pigs eating the eggs?

If im not mistaken, Texas parks and wildlife tried to reintroduce the quail back out there to granger and they just got obliterated by the coyotes pretty **** quick.

Actually, if you look at the research its the raccoons, skunks and possums more so than coyotes. A friend that has successfully reintroduced quail left the coyotes alone and concentrated on these other animals. I'm not saying coyotes don't kill quail, but they kill possums more.

Nope. Fire ants and in the summer when quail nest may June. The chicks that dont get eaten by ants fall into the deep cracks!!

I'm sure yotes will kill and Bobcats as well. But fire ants #1...bobwhites only avg 1 year lifespan in wild. No hatch no quail!

Coyotes have wiped out grangers rabbits. Very rarely do I see cottontail anymore. If we do its in a briar in the park area!!!

Question, when is the last time any of you saw someone using a dog to hunt at Granger? Are you allowed to use dogs to hunt at Granger? Asking for a 'friend'.

I guess you figured it out.

I don't know why, but I thought the OP was talking about hunting hogs with dogs; so that's what I meant.

Retrievers and pointers (for quail) are allowed, obviously.

You can also utilize blood tracking dogs as long as u let the biologist and warden know during deer season! If u shoot a trophy boar and want to use tracking dogs they prob don't care...lol

With the Government shut-down, I saw the additional hog tags are on hold. Lucky you got yours when you did.

Weatherman with a vendetta against me strikes again. Forecast heavy fog Thursday morning, but delivered brilliant sunshine, so I wasted my time walking around the north side of the Willis Creek unit; saw nothing but deer. Clearly, there are no pigs at Granger.

I will report that the lake is up. Ground is still very muddy from the last rain, so it was hard to move quietly. (damp ground = quiet, but muddy ground =squishy sounds).

Additionally the track and gate off CR 349 have been substantially improved. The track is now crushed rock for the first 300 yards and ends in a pipe cattle loading facility.

Hog tags? I’m confused. Is this something outside of the annual public hunting permit?

Did you get the tags for the whole PHL or unit specific tags? Granger hog tags are different than the TPWD hunting license, you do NOT want to get busted without one.
