Syl and I spent 3 days chasing reds in the kayak this weekend. We fished the Wilson's Cut area as usual and could barely catch a hard head for the first day and a half. Saturday we kept paddling around, throwing live shrimp and cut mullet until close to noon, then started heading back to our launch point. It was getting warm, but we made one final stop to finish the shrimp and Syl picked up an undersize red. Within minutes a 24" red slammed my cut bait and it was game on. Over the next 1 1/2 hours we caught 8 reds with 3 in the slot.
Sunday morning we were on the water by 7:00 AM and headed back to the same area. So much for the early start, it was probably 10:30 before we got a bite. But then the magic happened, in less than 2 hours we both had our limits. Shrimp or cut mullet, it didn't matter. We caught a few rat reds, but most were solid 22-24" fish.
Syl took big fish honors this trip with this nice 26" she caught today.
