Tomorrow will be interesting. Lol.

Wind is suspicious…. But I’m shoving all the chips in on thermals! I’m on the top of steep ridge and HIGH. hoping the current and thermal will buy me 20 yards grace if needed. Still expected shot to be to my due east… but who knows this time of year. Gonna plan to park before daylight and sneak in as soon as I can see good enough to not use a light. All-in

Made it to my lease southeast of Livingston this afternoon. Put spreader on ATV and got corn spread at 3 stands before the rain hit. Decided to climb in my box stand and sit a while to see if rain stirs them up a little. Questioning that decision now as it got dark fast and bottom fell out. Will watch radar and try to make a break for it if opportunity arises.

Good luck! I had a new one show up at my wifes spot this morning with some impressive 2s and 3s.

I made it up to Grapeland at 2pm right as the bottom fell out. I walked a half mile in the rain to the stand and watched it rain for 2 hours. I only saw a doe and a fawn right before dark. In almost 20 years on this property I've never seen as many acorns as I see on the ground right now. Feeders have corn stalks under them and sweet feed troughs and protein feeders have lasted weeks longer than they should.

Place was on fire this morning before storms came - shot an old crappy 8 right at daylight, went grabbed four wheeler loaded him up and was back at camp when another old 6 came right where I shot him looking for that buck bomb doe. Two oldest bucks on place within 30 mins of each other, lucky it’s a one buck county

I climbed in a stand overlooking a pasture between some woods down below the house on our farm, and within five minutes I was covered up in deer. I had three bucks running does hard, but they were all young. One of them is a solid 3 1/2 year-old 10 point that gave me just enough time to determine he needed another year, lucky for him.

Suprised with how slow the green screen has been this weekend. Figured this cold snap would spur a few more dirt naps.

My hunting has been slow. All my good bucks at my free place have disappeared even the does are scarce. At my lease I can kill a second buck after thanksgiving but I don’t have any on camera I care to target. Going next weekend to try to kill a couple does, tried last weekend and the wind didn’t cooperate. I am at the free place this morning but have little confidence as camera pictures are few and far between

In the blind here in Jasper, just had a good 8 pushing a doe hard. Then two spikes following does in two separate instances, not pushing hard but looked to be getting fired up.

What is everyone’s thoughts on this rut. I would have thought my other lease members would have great action on Saturday and today but they are seeing no rut activity and minimal deer. Think we are past peak rut already and are headed down?

When typically have y’all seen great movement and chasing or seeking? Which dates?

Houston County.

Thanks!

Halloween weekend the chasing starts good here and goes through second week of general. I believe they have been locked down this week and are coming out of it here from what I am seeing on camera. Doe were gone the last few days and nights but are showing back up. There will be a secondary around Thanksgiving or the week after. Alot of our doe here were bred really late last year. We had several fawns with spots still when bow season opened.

Right there with you in Houston County. Usually the last weekend of bow season to around the opening of the general season is the most active year to year on our place but this year has been a dud. Usually we have less acorns. With a bumper crop, the does don't have to move far from their bedding area to eat and can lay back down in cover. Does staying in cover and not having to come to feed areas being hunted translates to bucks not having to come far out of cover. I think this is the issue on our place. I have NEVER seen this many acorns on the ground in the woods. The timing of the last couple of big fronts dropped a ton of acorns right at the time of peak rut activity.

Here’s my dads Rusk county deer from earlier - actually came into corn about 7:15 this morning. My dad hunted a prime killing stand that can be feast or famine but during the rut it is a great place and has produced some really good deer, including us 168 from a couple years ago. This is the 11pt we’ve had on camera that has been nocturnal.

The activity in northwest Nacogdoches county has been really good this morning after several days of slow to no activity. This frost should make my food plot and the cow’s wheat field look really good now.

Sat in Anderson County this weekend looking for a freezer filler. Had been having alot showing up leading up to Friday so I was stoked, only planned to hunt Friday and ended staying through last night. Saw a small 8 Friday morning, legal but too young, and then a 5 point came in each of the other 3 sits. 0 doe. All I had at that spot on camera were doe and saw 2 bucks I had never seen on camera at that spot.

You never know what's going to happen when you climb in the stand. On a nother note has a new nice 9 show up early yesterday morning, he came in just after I got in the stand but I couldn't see him and he left about 10 minutes before shooting light. I only know because I checked cams before I headed home. Was kind of ****** because I would have shot him but gives me hope after doe days to still hunt that place. As it was really just a doe factory this year until he showed up

I have sat over 60 hours to see one 4 point baby walk around. Haven’t even seen does during daytime this season. Everything nocturnal and non stop acorns since beginning of October. Had a legal buck come in right after light Sat morning. I said I was gonna pass him but he didn’t leave and that ****ed devil on my shoulder got to me. Starting thinking Id go without venison this year and that tripped my finger. Was younger than I thought when I got up on him.

Eating lunch after church and phone sends pic of “Big Jim”. He was on ridge from 11:00 last night till almost 6 this morning and back checking feed pen at 1:30. East wind today won’t work where I was so I pulled a platform off another property quickly and headed into woods… get pic of small buck sleeping in pen. Looped wide and got into about 30 yards before he stood up. Wind perfect and he just stood around and slowly walked away. Seen him after I hung platform crossing field behind me. And just heard a shot close by on eastern neighbors. Directions I figured he went

Hopefully he’s looking for that doe group yesterday and makes another pass
