Finally got on the board for this season! I was at the ranch with just the dog, so she got to be my stand in for the picture. Got to take out an old Tim Meigs longbow that a friend of mine was given, I just so happened to have some old cedar arrows and Zwickeys that tuned up nicely to it. I clipped his spine with the first arrow and he dropped, so I put an extra through his shoulder for good measure and that was that.

Finally on the board with a deer this season. I quit counting how many times this doe has busted me over the past 2 months (countless). Love my Sarrels Blueridge and Grizzly broadheads!

After about 6 years and countless arrows flung at turkeys with my recurve, I finally got one.

To make it even better, I had my boys in the ground blind with me, and they were thrilled to carry it out of the words for me.

I also shot a doe with the boys in the blind as well. She was very jumpy after having been spooked off several times by the boys candy wrappers, sniffling, etc.

I did not make a good shot, and she spun into the arrow, which hit her in the neck. Think the arrow hit the jugular and she dropped after a step or two. I quickly ran out and put another arrow through the lungs.

Agreed. Didn’t go the way I’d planned, but it was quick and I have meat for the table, as I’d run out of venison.

Decided to go sit in a blind this afternoon and see if I could get a shot at a decent whitetail buck. I’ve been noticing some rut activity and saw a new buck the other day.

Anyway, not long after I sat down, a group of blackbuck antelope came in. There was one real nice ram, and I decided if he gave me a shot I would take it. After a while, he ended up at about 12yds munching on the hand throw corn I had put down. When he put his near leg forward, I drew back and let an arrow fly!!! My first impression was that I might have been low. He bounded off and after about 75yds, toppled over in sight!!!!! I’m not sure if I fumbled the shot a bit or if he did a matrix move on me, but the arrow went in just in front of the near leg, and then up thru his neck.

This is the first blackbuck I have ever shot on my place, and I’m very happy with him. He measured 20 1/2” x 20 3/8” which is a pretty darn good ram!!!!!!

Congrats everyone!

I went with a couple friends and hunted with Heart of Texas Bowhunting. We had a large time and saw a ton of deer. Killing a good deer is certainly a possibility but they gave us the green light on a few “cull” deer. I’m an equal opportunity type guy so I was happy to take this very unique deer!
