When I used to be mad at them, I used to be on a river bottom lease in Liberty county. The best bow hunts I had for seeing bucks and getting an opportunity was always around October 15th. It seems there would be more bucks up on their feet cruising within 2-3 days before or after and the activity would last all day long. There would always be new deer during that time period and during the week was even better because people activity would pick up on the weekends. You would still get the random big buck cruising across a road or pipeline opening week of rifle season but they would already be pretty run down by then. The next best time was always the last 3 weeks of season when you could pattern them on corn and the hunting pressure had fallen off. Now I live not far from that lease and can pretty much see the same trend from my back porch.

My hand corn pile's have been SLOW the last few days. So next time I make it up there I'll move cameras to scrapes.

Last year, activity was HOT action around this time of the month. It is completely DEAD this year. Just a couple does every now and then. I haven’t even had a picture of a deer on cell cam for about 48 hrs. There must be some oak trees nearby dropping acorns that i don’t know about.

Not sure about y’all, but I haven’t been seeing much in the way of acorns up my way. I found a cluster of 4 willow oaks dropping, scattered some corn underneath them and it’s been getting hit hard.

I agree with gar guy on this one, looking like an earlier rut than in past years. Maybe we’ll be seeing an earlier and stronger winter as well

I had a ton of chasing this time last year but we had much cooler temps last year early. This cooler weather should definitely get them going. All my bucks are still grouped up like it's August. Bet their attitudes will change this weekend.

Watching our oldest cheer under the Friday Night Lights then headed to deer camp to get in the stand with this cooler weather coming. Haven't pulled cards in almost a month so not real sure what our deer are doing currently

My MIL Couldn’t have picked a worse **** weekend to come celebrate her birthday. You’d think after that many you wouldn’t care anymore.

I’m just glad my job will afford me the opportunity to go Sunday through Tuesday.

There was a true giant killed in Houston co. I got punked a couple years ago but this seems legit. Right out of Pennington. 203 inches. I have been assured it is a low fence deer but I got tricked once.

I just talked to a buddy of mine from up around Grapeland who has some friends around Pennington that he said, if anybody would know about it they should, but he said they hadn’t heard anything.

I havent had a picture of a deer since the 11th. Its extremely slow on my small place in Trinity county. Nothing eating corn. Not even hogs.
Got to be an oak tree raining acorns nearby

Curious to see the pics. I know my buddies dad killed one last weekend not all too far west of where you’re talking that’s pushing 200” on a low acreage low fence place.

My deer have just about now totally quit alfalfa and corn. On my corn feeder I have not got a pic of a deer since monday and on my alfalfa I only get about 3 pics a day. Two weeks ago I was getting pics all day and all night long on the alfalfa and had 6 to 10 deer a day coming to the corn. Funny thing is I have not seen a whole lot of acorns, just very few.

Yep it sounds like there might be some acorns around that your not aware of. There falling pretty good at the house now. At my lease there is very little hardwood. I have 2 300 lb gravity feeders at one location that I fill with corn Oct-Dec then protein the rest of the year. These 2 feeders are empty every 6 days. I have 2 slingers at another location and have increased the feed time to 10 seconds twice daily. No corn will be left on the ground. But again, I have very little hardwood. Good luck to y’all. Getting ready to turn on like Donkey Kong.

My white oak and post oak have been dropping for over a week now and the ones I’ve checked were already starting to rot.

…. The red oaks won’t rot by seasons end

Sounds good. I always eat at "Tacos by the Trax" right across the railroad tracks in Trinity on 94. That place is awesome if you are ever in town and need a bite to eat.

Hoping something does change the activity. All the bucks have been nocturnal the last couple weeks. At least that is what my cameras are showing.

Seems like the oaks are light this year, so corn has been decent at my place in Houston county.

Looking to be in a tree a lot next week and week after. If weather allows.

Good luck to all this weekend.

The burger joint is pretty dang good. They dont have a fryer yet, but have chips. I get lays with the burger and its good.

I still need to try Wagon Wheel. Might stop in there when my wife is with me next week on our way back up for the Peanut Festival.

I’m not going to be there this Saturday but I would love to meet y’all, and as I have well-established I am a big fan of taco‘s by the Trax, so if y’all will be up there next weekend shoot me a PM and we can meet there for lunch.
