Default Jeep value question

I am looking at buying a 1997 jeep wrangler 2 door, 4WD, manual 6 cylinder with 111,000 miles on it. Jeep is super clean inside and out, clean title never wrecked. Everything works/runs great, 6 inch lift, 33" tires (new tires this year).

What would you consider a fair/good price?

I may be going to buy this today or tomorrow.

Any and all input is appreciated, I think

With used prices these days I think all historical data is irrelevent. I would suggest getting on auto trader and car guru's and see what comprable ones are going for and then add the value of any add ons that the one you are looking at adds. Also Jeep forums or Jeep FB groups might be a good sournce of info also.

This is the jeep I am interested in, but I have never bought a jeep so I am just looking for opinions if I am getting a good deal pending everything is in the condition as advertised.

111,000 miles, everything runs great

$11,500

poor, fair, good, great price?

Thanks!

Gotcha, a buddy of mine got one similar but the whole outside has been bedlinered plus its a hard top and its on 35" tires for 10,000 recently. Not sure on the miles or exact year but its mid to late 90s for sure.

For a 22 year old jeep. Way to high for me. My tops would be $6500

Make dang sure the lift was done correctly. They get the death wobble if not. And most road walk bad as it is. It makes them really suck to drive on the highway.

Price seems a touch high for a soft top standard. AC and heat work? Upgraded radio? Aside from that it’s not too far off. In today’s market it’s probably decent.

Interesting and maybe your right but I have been looking at jeeps for awhile and not found any jeep this clean with lower mileage under $8k...

I was in same ballpark starting. Backing my way in…Tires are worth ~$1200 L&M? Lift is worth ~$1200 L&M? I figure $5500. $7900. $8k max.

I wouldn't pay more than 10 for a 97 TJ unless it was a very capable rig with tons and lockers.
But Im also not currently in market for a jeep and my style of jeeping is probably different than most.
I sold a highly modified 2000 TJ for 10, probably didn't have as good of road manners as the one you're looking at, but its been a few years.

I currently drive a TJ as my daily driver. I think 11500 is a decent price as long as the road test is good. I really don't think that those people saying 6500-8000 max have been shopping for jeep recently. The only jeeps i have found in those ranges are in really bad shape.

I'm in the market for a different truck/car/jeep something and when I look at cars that are 20+ years old I keep thinking that every thing made of rubber should be about to crack or miss up.

I agree with this, anything that is under $8k either has 180,000+ and/or is in rough shape.

I'm in this boat ^^^

I'd say if it's super clean, with the right lift set up, and heat & AC work, $10k TOPS. If your looking to drive it daily the hiccups for me would are: base model, age (being a '97), soft top, half doors, 6" sounds like a frankenstein lift to me

Mine is an 08, I know it’s not the sought after year models, but I gave $11k for it with 82k miles, it is a base model with standard transmission I’ve easily spent that much more modding it out.

My 05’ rubicon if I was to sale would be at about 19k. And it has 129k miles. Kelly blue book has it at 14k with none of the extras. 11.5 is a pretty good price.

Not far off in the current market. Really Should be $8-9k but I think 10-10.5 is fair currently (to me anyway.) I've owned about a dozen TJs at this point.

Seems high to me, but someone will pay it if not you. :-). Offset on wheels looks a little off and I have noticed over the years that many jeeps with poor suspension work seem to appear with the wheels turned in the pictures. Seriously. Take a close look at the front end.

I am going to go with it is a tad bit on the high side but it all depends on the condition and your desire to own it. I paid a little less than that for a 2006 with 124K miles last year but I have spent a ton ($2,000+) on getting it where I want it. I will expect to be able to get my money out of it when I sell it. If it does not need any work then you might have a decent deal.

I think it’s just a little high but it really depends on how much you want THAT Jeep. Recently sold my 03 that was in excellent condition and 65,000 miles for 14k. It had 33’s with under 10k miles and a ton of nice upgrades. The market is all over the place on Jeeps.

If everything is in good shape (correctly done lift, good brakes, no rust, rubber parts look ok, etc) then I'd say in this jacked up market $11k ish wouldn't be unfair to either side, but I wouldn't pay it unless you just fell in love with that particular TJ. That said, car prices are stupid right now, jeeps have always been inflated, so you can't expect a steal. Go look at Broncos if you want to see crazy

I let this 2000 standard with 154k miles go CHEAP for $12250 cash about 6 weeks ago. 2 years ago 8-10k would have been fair.

I’d make sure the front ends not worn out. I’d make sure it doesn’t have any leaks. Why not pay for a pre purchase inspection at a Jeep shop?

Be aware a 6” lift is quite a bit for that TJ. Make sure your good with the body roll and wandering before you buy. Lots of folks including myself don’t care for the sloppy handling of high lifted Jeeps (on road of course). Good luck. It looks clean.

I had a guy begging to buy our 92 yj Sahara with 87k miles for $8,500 the synchronizers were out, and the AC didn't work. With the new AC and transmission I'm pretty sure I could get 11k.
It's the same year model they used in Jurassic Park and quite a few people are looking for them.

Your price is reasonable

I got a heck of a deal on a 2014 JK sport 2dr in spotless condition inside and out with 90,000 miles on it about 3 weeks ago:
Freedom Hard Top
4” BDS lift with Fox Res Shocks
Rock rail steps
Brand new 35” tires and American Racing Wheels
$20k

Every other 2014 JK sport I have seen has been listed for $24kish with no aftermarket accessories and close to $30k with them

I think 11.5 is a good price, I have 2 jeeps. One is a '98 with the 4.0 that I bought many years ago with a 2.5 " lift and a few upgrades and 180k on miles for 9k. The 4.0 is a beast and though it won't outrun anything it will climb anything in front of it and last forever if maintained. I'm at almost 300k on miles now and my son daily drives it and it doesn't burn a drop of oil between changes. From the pics it doesn't look like a 6" lift to me, could just be the angle of the pics. Looks more like a 4.5 " lift like I have on my 13' JKUR. Looks like its a clean TJ and a good price to me. JMO

Id say $11.5 is fair, I picked up a '97 last year for $8K and it was a great deal. The market has done nothing but go up since then.

Mine had 112k miles on it, 4.0, automatic transmission and re-geared to 4.10 on 35's.

This market is crazy. I just sold my 92 for $6700.00. This was with not top, no back seat. It is in really great condition with only 83,000 miles but still i was surprised.

I sold my dad's 2005 a few months ago. It had about 65K miles, hard top, 5 speed in great condition for around 11K.

Check for rust underneath, make sure the frame is not rusted and patched.
Also a little high for a 97. I bought a 2002 with 60k miles, extra clean, 6 cylinder, for $11 a few months ago.
