Nice truck.

Just paid mine off last month. Then...a check engine light came on. Lol. Oh well. It's actually just the seat belt assembly, so it's an easy fix.

I miss my Dad. My brothers are great guys, but not much for camping and campfires. Dad and I had some great hunts. I miss my Dad.

But overall, I just miss the comrodary of good friends and adventures. Talking up the next trip, driving out to fill feeders, or move a stand, or just to be. Life without good friends really is not life at all.

Thank God for my wife. Without her I would have nothing.

Have a pretty cool story for y'all.

Growing up, one of my best friends lived directly behind the house across the street. I could get to her house through the 2 gates in the neighbor across the street's yard. (It was WAY back then...LOL...and that is what kids did....travelled through all the yards.) We grew up, got married, had kids, divorces, and other life events.....and moved all around. We kept in semi touch through FaceBook.

Fast forward to a few short years ago and my mom retired. I bought a house and moved her in with me. Mom and I get along GREAT! Mom goes to a neighborhood event and finds herself sitting next to my girlfriend's mom. Crazy!!! Her parents had moved to the same neighborhood we live in.

My girlfriend has recently had some heart issues and her parents were getting much older; and her dad is not in great health. I heard through FB that she was going to move close to my area. Well....seems she moved her parents out of their place and they bought one to live together VERY close to me.

Last night, we were out doing yard work and this car stops and the guy inside says....MARY?!?!?! I turned and said yes, and it was her brother. He tells me they live around the block now.

How crazy is it that my friend and their parents now live behind the house directly across the street....the exact same set up we grew up in!

Life can make some crazy twists and turns!!!

Checking in to see what I’ve missed in the long absence of I’ve had from TBH.

Life has been busy and will get busier soon.

I plan to pop in at least once a day from now on.

Little boy’s first beach trip.

He loves Starbucks and it actually helps calm his autism some.

Welcome back, brother!

I’m still enjoying TBH and the great folk in Texas. I retired in Montana escaping from CA, dropped “in San Jose” from my screen name and live in God’s big sky country.

Glad the Starbucks helps. Maybe it’s the caffeine?

98 degrees today- in Montana for jimmies sake. We went for local made ice cream.

Now putting the finishing touches on some ribs. NOT real Texas-style ribs, but the best I can do up north with the tools and knowledge I possess.

Looking good there, Bill...but your daughter looks a whole lot better!!!

We are still trying to get up there in September. Health issues have interfered with our bro and sis-in-law, and they are still not at their cabin. We will see!

It's been 11 years since I joined here. It's been at least 6 years since I've pulled a string back on some game. It's been 5 years since my FIL (best friend, hunting mentor, prankster, drinking buddy) left us. My daughter and hunting buddy is grown up, out of college, started her teaching career, and is on her own this year.

Life changes... But this forum has always been my stopping place.

I want to put out a heart-felt Thank You to everyone here. The stories, the hunts, the memories that have been shared, are awesome. I feel thankful for being included in "The Family!"

Lord, I knew I wouldn’t be ready for this day. My last tether to south Texas crossed that rainbow bridge on Sunday. I remember picking him up at a coworker’s house on King Ranch, training him to blood trail deer and Nilgai for me and actually helping me in that dept pretty well.

It’s because of him I threatened a dog catcher within an inch of his life bc he was under “Observation” for rabies but they had him with the kill dogs at the Kingsville pound for biting a guy that was casing my house. I drove to the pound every day and fed him myself, and I think the catcher was more relived then we were when we went home.

He earned a rude Spainish nickname for being a butthead in his younger years but that was just his stubborn streak, although I called him worse when he’d crap like clock work in the bed of the hunting truck from the Norias main gate too the colony every morning.

He definitely made an impression good or bad on a lot of folks he met. It was always humorous the way he’d hop out the truck when I’d stop to visit Erven, the owner of his sire Bigfoot at the main gate. He’d stroll right in and plop down on a mat by Erven like he was gonna spend the shift keeping him company and to pick him up later. A wingman he was not, I think he flirted with every pretty girl he met because he knew he’d get away with murder in their eyes.

We covered a lot of country on Santa Gerturdis, Norias and Laureles together and everywhere in between. I’m sure half the mutts running around Kingsville have some Catahoula in their lineage thanks to this guy’s moonlighting. Although the time he jumped out of the truck on Laureles and my friend that’s the security officer found him the next day reeking of sour milo must of been one for the books. Poor pooch hopped out of Beau’s truck and went straight to his favorite cool spot by the cooler said it all.

He was always there when I needed him, thru the highs and lows and always looked out for me, even though I was lying when I said it the night before he died and told him if he was hurting he didn’t have to hold on because of me. I went up to fill feeders and was gonna be back the next day and he decided like always to make up his and my mind for us.

I feel like Woodrow after losing Augustus, my best friend had to leave me, it don’t make it easier but I understand. And before anyone gets it in their head I’m not looking for a replacement right now. My job takes me on the road to much and it’s gonna be to tall an order to replace Lance.

Ve con Dios Hijo…

Well, it's time to toss another log on the fire! Hagen and I were blessed with the opportunity to share and enjoy fellowship with 6 fantastic family's over the weekend at the Freeman Ranch in San Marcos. If you have kids (9-17) and regardless if you have family land to hunt or a lease, these hunts are priceless additions to a child's growth as a hunter, outdoor enthusiast, and overall purveyor of the tradition we love to participate in. Sign them up with the Texas Youth Hunt Program, it's tough to put a value on these experiences.
