    Grass Identification?

Do any of you know what type of grass this is? Is it a native grass or just weeds? When we bought our place last August they had just had 17 trees raken out and a bunch of grading done so the yard was pretty much diet. The previous owner had seeded with Zoysia grass but I think most of the seed burned up. Whatever this is, is coming back strong with a little Bermuda mixed in. I thought I was going to have to sod but it has taken off pretty good.

It's a cool season, so it won't last much longer.

Poa annua is more a weed than a grass. The only way to get rid of it is wiping it with gly or using a pre-emergent. Probably take a couple years to get it all.

My dad always called it goose grass. Good grazing for livestock this time of year.

Yes, those annuals produce tons and tons of seeds.

I did Pastora and Image this year for KR Bluestem and it knocked the poa annua out.

Yes it’s Poa Annua or annual blue grass. For now I would mow weekly and the warm temperatures will knock it out soon enough. This is an annual weed so the best method of control is an application of Pre-emergent herbicide in the fall mid September. In lawns that are full sun and without irrigation I am seeing Poa in decline already.
