Skylight the trees as high as you can.

After trying every so-called shade tolerant grass out there I put edging around those shady trees and planted ground covers like Asian jasmine, purple winter creeper and giant liriope. It takes a couple years to fill in but once it does it’s a good low maintenance option. San Augustine requires 5-6 hours of sunlight

St Augustine won’t grow there either.

If it's full shade Zoysia or St Augustine won't last long.

I had never heard of purple winter creeper until you mentioned it here. I’m curious, is it more or less hardy than Asian jasmine? Does it tolerate full sun? And in your experience, is it deer resistant?

                  Question about my yard

Going through this same issue. I put down some St Augustine sod around some big pecan trees and it’s coming in nicely and slowing working its way towards my big oak tree.

It grows in full sun to full shade. It spreads like crazy after it gets established which can be a problem for some areas I guess but easy to keep it trimmed back. It proved even hardier than Asian jasmine during that single digit cold snap a couple years back

Hmm. My Floratam grows really good in partial/mostly shade.

Had the same problem. Last year put down some St. Augustine I bought from Lowes, It did so well this year two weeks ago bought a whole pallet of St. Augustine from local lawn company and put it out and is doing great. It was a whole lot cheaper to buy from grass dealer.

I have an area in my backyard that is almost total "dappled" shade.
Doesn't get much sunshine. The ST augustine is doing fine there. For 40+ yrs.

We have Asian jasmine and it’s a real easy low maintenance ground cover. But it does spread like crazy.
