Kansas produced this year. Shot my pb tonight on a giant 8. I have been hunting Kansas since 2014 with many good deer being passed waiting on that one great Midwest buck. Had a mishap on a big 10 last year that I have not let myself live down till now. I knew this property was great but had to have a north wind. Got to that farm at 1 pm and sat in my truck till 3 waiting on the north wind. I knew I could not access till north wind hit. Once north wind hit I got in there and hung my set and this boy came strolling thru at 5pm. Complete surprise as this is a new property and the first hunt on it. He gave me a perfect quarter away shot at maybe 12 yards and watched him fall 30 yards away. It makes all the deer passed and mishaps worth it. Today was the first day the rut kicked off in this area as I rattled in a big 9 this morning to 5 yards with no shot and that being the first shooter I seen all week then the buck I killed tonight. Cannot wait till next year.

2004, my first trip to Kansas. Rolled into Stafford about 3pm on a Monday. Met up with my outfitter and he drove me out to the farm I was going to hunt for the next week. While we were looking at the property from the road, he asked me what I was looking for. I said a 10 point or better. He just laughed and said, “You haven’t seen some of our 8’s!!”
 And he was right!!! The last buck I killed was a big ole 8. That is a heck of a deer. Congrats on a brute. Lots of bone there. But kinda sucks if that was on the first day!!!
