Default Hog trap attempt

Trying my hand at trapping some with a corral trap

Started last weekend with some help from my oldest

Size: 151.0 KB

Left it incomplete so they could easily get in and out

Name: IMG_5213.JPG
Views: 1250
Size: 140.8 KB

Re-enforced it today, added more T-posts and the guide wing

Tied the throat open so they could get in and out since I don't plan on checking it until next weekend (will untie the throat next Friday evening)

21 T-posts, 6 full cattle panels and 2 half panels for the guide wing. Had that all laying around here

Hopefully next weekend I will be adding to the swine body count thread

looks good. You were smart to add more t-posts. The piglets will squeeze through those squares, but you might not be worried about them. Make sure the seems are overlapped! Tuned in for updates

Good luck! I'm curious to see if it works. Seems like the bigger ones would crawl out? May have to try one if its works for you.

I think the real small ones might get out or even in but I will be checking with shotgun to clean up on the ones on the out side

Bigger ones may climb out, have to wait and see I guess

I overlapped a full square on the ends, tied panels to T=posts at bottom and about halfway up and drove a post about every 4.5' around the perimeter

Deer should be able to jump out

Hopefully pigs are comfortable with going in by the weekend

Here is my current setup. I want to say the horse panels I use are 5'. I've had a few try to climb out unsuccessfully, but I do put a slight angle in with the t-posts. Looking forward to when my boys are old enough to help out.

Excellent setup. Mine wasn't quite that big and no throat but did have a feeder. Left it tied open about a week after adding the trap where the feeder was established, when I set the trap, the next day I had 13 in there. Get em and good luck.

We use the same one at my buddies farm. We have 2 traps and move the gate and camera between them.

You trigger it with a text to the camera which sends a signal to the gate.

No reason that won't work. I have one and it works. Only thing to avoid is getting your scent on it when baiting and setting. I have mine set up so I can bait and set the trip wire from the opposite side of the funnel.

Woodsman, that jager gate system is an investment from what I just saw on their site. I would love to have that, but right now I don't live on my place and I would worry about it walking away in a hurry.

Mike I am going to have gator bait, coyote bait, smoker filler and fertilizer

Spied a gator on the way to check if pigs were using trap but I don't think his little 3' self will cause me any problems

Grant I didn't see that sorry sucker today but I had the shotgun ready

Good news is the pigs don't mind going in the trap so Saturday morning is looking promising

Get some high tensile strength wire and thread that around and thru the bottom of those hog panels. It makes it that much harder for them to get under. They end up having to dig down and then back up. I have not lost a pig yet going under after I put another wire around the bottom.

Great idea. I know they push stuff up. How do you get the wire snug?

I would pull it tight and wrap each t post. Also put a clip on t post holding the wire. No it's not extremely tight but I can't get the bottom but an inch of the ground. I also do this on my gate panel but it zig zags from t post to t post between the bottom squares above the bottom wire. Now they don't lift the gate.

About to load up a bucket of corn and a wire brush to clean the trigger face on the cage trap (if I don't have any pics of deer in that trap) and get the 2 hog traps set

May set a coon trap and coyote trap too

Will update with pics tomorrow morning if successful

Rode up on the corral trap to untie "door" and had about a 120# boar in the trap. So I rode 4 wheeler up to outside where door was and shot him above the left eye head on with my EDC 9mm as he exited. He piled up outside and went to thrashing around and I got to work baiting and untying door and that tough sucker got up and ran off into the woods bleeding from a head wound.

I don't know if the hollow point blew up on his skull or he just made a last effort run for the woods.

I had shorts and crocs on so I did not pursue into briar and chigger territory. Might make a sweep in the morning after I check traps

I have hit them in nearly the same spot with a .22 and killed them

My buddy said that is one less I have to drag off

Interested to hear how it went this AM. Did you find last night’s boar? Smart move to postpone crocs/shorts search into briar/chiggers.

Had a big day so little time to post

Had 6 in the box trap about 50-60# ea that have a date with a gentleman who plans to eat them tomorrow morning

Name: IMG_5227.JPG

nothing in corral trap

Made a sweep through the woods looking for the boar I shot but after the rain that came through about 0430 there was no sign to be found and too soon for the buzzards

Check the corral in the morning and reset the box tomorrow evening
