Fishfinder shuts off when I turn on the trolling motor

I got a Minnkota Terrova from my neighbor, already had a Helix 7 fishfinder installed. Whenever I turn on the trolling motor the Helix shuts off completely and won’t turn back on while the trolling motor is on. The trolling motor is wired to 2 dedicated batteries that are not shared with the Helix. When the trolling motor is off the Helix works just fine. Any thoughts?

Something is connecting the two . Sounds like the trolling motor is pulling more power causing the fish finder to go low voltage and shutting down:

Sounds like above. FF is wired in with TM and causing low voltage. Mine did this when I would turn over the big motor and eventually had to run a separate run from crank battery to electronics to keep them from shutting down.

It isn’t a battery connection. Helix is wired to fuse box connected to the starting battery, trolling motor to 2 separate batteries. If it was shutting down when I started the outboard motor I would think the same as you. I think it maybe doing something wirelessly. I’ve googled it but haven’t found an answer.

Try hooking your DF to the battery directly

My fuse holder for my graph was causing the same thing. Replaced it. All good.

This is what my Helix 9 was doin shut off when I cranked the big motor would come right back on but I was tired of restarting it so I wired it direct to the battery.

Hook the depth finder to your cranking battery

I would rather have a trolling motor

Seems like years ago I had this problem and finally figured out the wires were to close together are maybe crossed over each other.. That's my best guess.

If you have a 3 bank charger, you may be getting feedback thru it. Take the fuses out of the leads that go from charger to cranking battery and see if it still does it.
