    Herbicide Help

Hey guys last fall I had about 15 acres logged, pretty much a clear cut done. The place was cleaned up well, but now I got some regrowth going on that I need to take care of. Here's what I'm looking for in a herbicide. Something that will take care of my regrowth, not kill what areas are growing some grass, and not kill the remaining tress. Also there is no farming around me so no need to worry about drift. I have some ideas from the search function but wanted to ask the experts. Thanks in advance for the help.

Regular ole 2,4-D will probably do fine. Or something like grazon P+D

Thanks for the input so far. Anyone else got some other options?

What kind of trees are regrowing? I have no idea what would kill pine trees, etc. GrazoNext is the easiest on new grass growth and will defoliate most trees. It might be enough to kill little saplings. P+D is also a good choice.

What species are you trying to control?

Imazypyr for upland hardwoods, this is soil active so don't get it into drip line or you'll have a dead tree.
Triclopyr for waxy, such as yaupon. Make sure to use a surfactant.
            Escort for elms and blackberry
            Glyphosate for pines, unwanted grass.

Are you looking to broadcast spray the whole 15 acres, or just spot-treat individual saplings? 2,4-D might be your best bet for the former. Remedy is a good general use brush killer for spot treatment.

Really want to Broadcast spray the whole area if possible. Trees that we’re cut off the place we’re all hardwoods oaks, hickory, elm. Most what I’m trying to control is stuff growing up from ground cut stumps. Everything was cut extremely low so the plan is to shred first and then spray afterwards. I wouldn’t call anything growing at this point saplings, at most growth is around 2 ft. Just trying to catch it early.

I would avoid shredding first if you’re going to broadcast spray. That will lay a lot of cut vegetation over the little stumps you want to spray, and reduce surface area for chemical uptake.

Yep, I'll agree with the others saying don't shred it. They are the perfect height for uptake right now.

Check your labels and it'll give you a good rate range per gallons of water, also note you don't also need to use max label rates.

                    24oz imazypyr
                    An ounce of escort
                    15gal water per acre
And a v:v sufact such as elite supreme will hammer that 15 acres

You just need P&D and Remedy right now. That will kill everything but the grasses. And it won’t bother big trees. Broadcast it with surfactant.

Picloram 22k will get small cedars and pines buy you will need to get good coverage on them.

If you find Pic 22k then you won’t need remedy in it.

We use a mix of Round Up Ultra and Broad Leaf herbicide called Outlaw. Performs very well for us in applications exactly like you described. Good luck.

From what you described, if you dont have a applicators license, remedy or pasture guard HL would be good. If you do have a license, I'd use grazon p&d.

Both will not harm your grasses, kill the weeds and may not kill all the brush but will knock the leaves off and keep it knocked back.

Dont use the suggested imazapyr that is a bare ground herbicide, or somebody suggested roundup, that will kill his grasses.
