Yes… a yard of dirt is generally is the 2000 lbs range a bit more depending on moisture. We put super sacks (1cubic yd) in the bed of 1/2 tons on a regular basis.

I assume you mean in the bed?

Fill dirt? Gravel? Road base? Decomposed granite?

A yard of dry fill dirt will be about a ton, if it's wet, could be 3k lbs.

You are probably over payload in a 1/2 ton and my guess it would be sagging down.

My dump trailer holds about 5 yards and on the scales when getting road base it's right at 10k lbs of material.

Depends on the dirt for the exact weight but you’re looking at 2k+ pounds. So no. Then you’ll have to shovel it out and scratch the hell out of your bed. You’ll never get it all out of the cracks and crevices especially at the tailgate.

Not going to say I haven’t done stuff like this b/c I have but that’s what you’re in for.

Lay a tarp down beforehand for easy cleanup and minimal scratches.

I put 2 yards in my long bed 3/4s regularly
                            I probably wouldn’t put a yard in a 1/2 ton with a short box
