Any tips or tricks to make a drum for testing from a gun room to a backstop?

Tagged. I don't know if you could try to make it quiet legally but would be nice to have something you could shoot into with out worry in town for function testing anyway.

Are you just wanting it for test firing for
function?
If so all the ones I have seen are usually 18-24” diameter steel pipe filled with sand or some other ballast to keep the bullet from passing through. Usually has a hole just big enough to get the barrel into with a little play.
Still pretty loud though especially when shooting rifles.

I've seen one some place that looked like a 30-55 gallon drum mounted to the side wall of a workshop/house. Seemed to work but not sure how....Comment
