If you came up here and looked after it has rained and warmed up again you'd for sure find one. They're amphibian eating little dudes. If the toads are thick they're gonna be out huntin.

That stands true for a lot of snakes though. After a nice rain and the sun comes out they love it.

I still remember the first one I ever found. I was young so I was a little freaked out. Had it by the tail and it coughed up a salamander.

About 50 years ago, when I was maybe 15 years old and my younger brother was 13, we were cutting across the property near my home on the canal bank. There was a three strand barbed wire fence and my younger brother was going through first.

I was holding the strands of wire apart so he could cut through and about halfway through he backed out, got his shirt hung on the wire and started screaming… COBRA! COBRA!

Yep, there was a Spread Adder/Hognosed “Cobra” a couple of feet in front of him kissing.

I've heard them called several different things. Hognosed viper, spreadinanner, spreadin adder......I just say hog nose.

I play with them too. I have never been able to make one bite me. Every other snake down to grass snakes will bite without hesitation. Those hognose are cool. They would rather play dead than bite.
