Default Kansas 2019

Truck is loaded and I am headed north. Destination is Unit 11, outside of Ottawa, Kansas for a week of hunting a Kansas Monster. Looking at a 12+ hour drive, but I am up for it. Plan on going live starting tomorrow morning.
Stick around and hopefully I will be able to put one down..
More to come.....

Pulled out of Yoakum at 445 this morning and 12 hrs later I made to my destination if Princeton. Kansas. 771 mile. Stands are checked and ready to start up first thing in the morning.
Going to go live so stick around. Tons of sign and looks like the weather is going to be good

And here we go. On stand, early I know, enjoying the peaceful quiet of the woods.
I an 15 ft up in a ladder stand overseeing 4 main trails to a bedding area (cedar thicket). Tons of good fresh ribs and scrapes in the area.

This should be good. Will update after sun up

Back at it. 52* and 14 mph NW wind. Hunting a travel route from bedding to a planted field. A bunch of rubs and scrapes all over this area. Let's see what this afternoon holds

So after 2 sits I am seeing some movement. The adjoining property has a guy hunting it that LOVES his grunt tube. I know this because I heard it all morning and afternoon.
Going to give this stand another sit, and them move.

Well this is NOT what I wanted. Gave him 45 min. A started the track. I knew the arrow was still in him so we searched for blood. Went about 30 yards until blood was found and my arrow
Great blood for about 30 yds and then it slowed. Then slowed some more. Then nothing. It got to where there would only be one drop every 20 yds. Long story short, I dont think he is going to die, just a good gash.
I cannot believe I just did this kn the biggest whitetail I have ever shot at.. SICKENING

Found a little more blood, and tracked to a gravel road. He crossed the road on a heavy trail. Two more drops of blood and then nothing. The trail splits 3 ways and we we have gone over 100 yds down each trail and nothing. I was on my hands and knees at a creek crossing and nothing. I am starting to believe he is not dead. I think he might make it. On even ground the blood was very sparce. It only picked up when he jumped or went uphill

I have never used a dog. But might have to if I can find one close by. Kansas now allows it, but they have to be leashed

Last spot of blood was at a fence and ditch crossing. Cannot find anything across the fence or ditch. I am at a loss. I really do not think he is dead..

Time to move on. Set upon a hardwood ridge with bedding area east and west of me. Same place I killed my buck last year. Going to try this out this afternoon and tomorrow morning and see what's happening here
