Thanks for all the kind words and advice! The interview went well and I should know within the next two weeks if I'm still going to be a poor college kid, or a State of Texas employee. Thanks again Dennis and all for walking me through! Jason Slocum

If you get it you can go from a poor college student to a poor state employee

Dredge up an old thread, next week I have a job interview with TPWD for a Maintenance Specialist at one of the State Parks.

It's been over 20 years since I participated in an interview, so similar as the OP requested, wanted to get any last minute words of advice from the vast knowledge here on the Green Screen, especially if any of the members are in the same job title.

Thanks in advance for the advice and I'll let y'all know how the interview goes with hopes of being able to announce the next phase of our life!

Have a military retirement behind me, as of this month I qualify for retirement from a large Telecom company, my 401ks/pensions are very good, kids are both out, and want to get out of the corporate BS, so I would put it at retreading.

As far as a haircut, got my ears lowered yesterday, and I've kept it almost military over the years.

Haircut, shined shoes and a minimum sport jacket/ slacks and tie.

Ask questions and close with handshake and ask for the job.

Have it all Bill, boots are shined, thinking of losing the tie (I hate ties). I also have my list of questions prepared.

Have some questions ready to ask them. They will probably ask you what your weaknesses are. Come up with some real ones. The "I work too hard" thing is dumb.

Be calm and yourself. Remember the dude interviewing you is just another dude. Keep it conversational. Be early. Bring gum or cough drops and a hankerchief.

They are effing up if they don't hire you, so there is no pressure.

I have a butt-load of questions, I have no weaknesses, well- yes I do. I'm too generous with my free time.

The guy on the other side of the table puts his pants and boots on the same way I do, and he still has to wipe his rear, I got it.

Patience yall! The feller needs a moment to drink a whiskey and reflect why he didn't get hired. Or drink a whiskey in celebration that he got hired.

Either is a good reason to drink a whiskey.
