    TRS Retired Medical Insurance..it's changed!

Well, my "retired" wife got a SHOCK today!!

She had to visit her primary care physician, was prepared for her Co-Pay but had to pay $90 INSTEAD of her normal $35 Co-Pay????

Here it is....2019 and it's changed for Teacher health care. After a substantial amount of calls and research....NO co-pay UNTIL she/we pay out the FULL DEDUCTIBLE $3K then it goes back to co-pay!!

She just found out this apparently only affects those teachers who are RETIRED and NOT those who are still teaching??

TOTAL BS.....just one more example of when you retire, as a teacher or on Medicare you are NOT viewed as a valuable member of society, but now just a DRAIN on the system!!

I swear, they would rather see you die than recognize all the years of TRS retirement, NON-Teachers like me who busted your butt and worked then find out the CROOKED politicians just want you to kick the bucket so they can have more funds for THEIR POCKET or agendas to gain more votes!!

I’m in 100% agreeance with you that insurance is scam that is designed to make money from the insured. My only question is what did y’all normally have to pay regarding copays and deductibles? It’s my understanding that you always have to pay the deductible before you get to the copay.

“If you like your plan, you can keep your plan”. Said somebody I think. Only thing Obamacare gave us is increased premiums on people already with insurance

The fact this is apparently a 1st world country but most people can't afford health insurance and its associated costs is disgusting.

1st, my wife has been retired since 2017 after 30+- years of teaching. As an educator, she opted to NOT pay into SS but rather Teacher retirement in Texas.

Until THIS year, she paid co-pays as before. She had a hip replacement early in 2018 and we had to pay the co-pays and satisfy her "out of pocket" maximum then insurance covered the rest.

The CHANGE is with retired teachers. As stated, now she has to pay "out of pocket" her maximum BEFORE the co-pays goes back into effect.

I know this is NOT a big deal to those still working with a paycheck, but when BOTH of us are retired with limited income, it quickly becomes a BIG deal. You young ones will find out in the future.

As big of a RIP OFF as it is..find a way to get at least some coverage as surgery or a chronic condition can break the bank!

That is an amazing grasp of the obvious! Insurance companies are not in business to lose money!

Looks like the Texas legislators voted this in in 2017 and it went into effect Jan 2018. Seems like lots of retired teachers are leaving the program which doesn’t bode well for premiums down the road.

Just wait until the socialists get elected. Then "others" will pay all your bills and if you are unwilling to work, you will be sent a check for that as well. My wife is a teacher too. She retired and then had to go back to work.

That’s the way I have always had to handle it. The deductible has to be met before the insurance policy pays. That’s what a deductible is.

Really unfair considering that insurance was part of the retirement she earned with years of being an educator.

I feel your pain BUT - insurance companies do not just randomly change their benefits or coverage. They are required to notify any changes in coverage. So maybe you guys missed that in open enrollment?
