    Royal purple...

It is as great as “they” say it is? My all time favorite truck has 142,000 on the odometer and plan to drive her till I gotta push her...it’s actually my wife’s truck but she lets me borrow it [emoji28]
If Royal purple isn’t the cats meow...what is?

Never used it but heard nothing but good. I personally use Mobile 1 in every motor I own. 2 Tundras, one Acura and even my Suzuki Dr 140.

I have a 2003 F-150 with 288,000 miles on it. Original clutch. use quaker state oil and fram filter every 3 to 5 thousand. You take care of it, it will take care of you. And no truck payment for awhile.

Amsoil, I’m the second owner of on 06 Silverado 286,000 and it still runs great with no leaks on the driveway.
Amsoil was tested against Royal Purple and proved to be the better of the two.

Nope, Mobile 1. Did the research. Still driving an 02 Tundra TRD that I bought with less then 14,000 miles. Engine runs like new. Change the oil every 5000 miles. Been on to many hunting trips to count. Devil's River twice. Rough stuff. Three boy's lots of youth hunts. Never thought I would still be drive'n this truck, but it still drive's like a new one, so why spend the $$.

Amsoil patriot here. The first vehicle I used it on I had over 250k before selling it. Using it in an '18 Chevy 1500 5.3 and my '15 Duramax planning to put just as many miles on them. You pay a bit more but get twice the mileage on an oil change.

                          What he said^^

I use that in my 2006 Silverado. It has 307,000 miles and still runs like a scalded dog.

I have burnt up multiple parts using Royal Purple, would never use is again. I could go into a long very detailed story about how I found it's garbage, but I have proven multiple times, that stuff, is a bad idea to use in anything you want lubricated well.

What would I use for the situation that you have. I would suggest just a quality oil and good oil filter. Use a Wix filter, change the oil at 3000 miles or sooner. I would not use a synthetic, unless, that's all you can find. Synthetics sometimes cause oil leaks sooner. As for a good oil, I would say something like Valvoline, Mobile, would be plenty good. Use the recommended weight oil.

Modern engines, have tight clearances, because of the tight clearances, they run thin oils. So do not use heavier weight oils. More so if it has overhead cams, if it has overhead cams, it is more important for the pressurized oil to get to the top of the engine faster, or you will damage the cams and cam journals. Thick oils will be slower to get to the top of the engine.

A trick you might try, that I have used on a couple of my engines, is to replace one quart of oil, with Dexron transmission fluid. The Dexron fluid, has strong detergents and will clean the inside of the engine very well and do so slowly. So you don't fill the bottom of the oil pan with sludge and plug up the oil pickup.

I used it in a Escort years ago, that had over 140,000 miles on it, I ran it to 300,000. That car took 4 quarts of oil, I put one quart of Dexron fluid in the engine, on every oil change. Before doing so, the engine had lifter/lash adjuster noise, that kept getting worse. After the second oil change, the noise went away. So it took about 6,000 miles with the transmission fluid in with the oil. It ran to 300,000, when it blew a head gasket and bent two rods, because it hydraulic locked.

My truck I have now, has over 300,000, I run Valvoline 10-30W, conventional. About 180,000 it started getting the same lash adjuster ticking noise. I started putting 5 quarts of oil and one quart of transmission fluid, when I did oil changes. After the second oil change, the ticking noise went away. It went over 300,000 recently. I forgot about putting the transmission fluid in the oil a few years ago, the ticking noise has not come back. I should probably put a quart of transmission fluid in the oil again, just to keep the inside of the engine clean.
