It’s a little disturbing how many people on here don’t know their catfish species.

In their defense, this isn’t the Texas Catfishing Forum

I'm not surprised they don't know but I am surprised that when folks that do know answer the question folks just keep guessing wrong answes

I 100% didn't know what it was, and now I know! thank you all for the advise and clarification, hopefully if the boys catch him again I can get better pictures for species identification. I know now what to look for in these fish. Crazy thing is we have always fished this lake for bass, completely overlooking the big cats in here! Night fishing has more to offer now than just frog grabbing!

                        A little more help.
First pic is a male channel during spawn with a female channel also during spawn.

Second pic is a blue cat next to a channel cat.

Third is a channel on top then a blue cat and finally a flathead.

Forth pic is just a plain ol everyday blue cat.

There are NO bullhead or mudcat or polywob cats shown.

By the way, there’s no such thing as a “high fin blue cat!” (I see them called that often). A blue cat is a blue cat.

Do these male channels have yellow meat like the females?

Do they stay gray/blue year round or just during the spawn?
