Elk cartridge for small-framed wife

My wife is a bit recoil sensitive on top of being small.. likely wouldn’t shoot past 350 yds or so. Suggestions for a cartridge that provides enough energy (~1400+ ft-lb) at that distance with little felt recoil? This would likey be a mountain-type rifle, so relatively lightweight with a muzzle brake.

NOTE: I do understand that “shot placement is everything”.

A LOT of elk have been killed just fine for many years with a .270. That should meet your requirement.

7mm-08 or a .308. Some people have been knocking them down with a 6.5 creedmoor.

Not really an animal you want to go lite on. Not that they are that hard to kill but in elk country if you can anchor him in a good place and not let him run down in a canyon your waaay ahead of the game. My uncle has killed many with a 30-06 180gr Nosler partition. Put a muzzle break on it and a mercury tube in the stock and a sims pad and she should be good to go !

270, 308 with heavier bullet, but 270 kicks like a mule so prob 308. 6.5 creedmore is a great cartridge as well
