Default Olympic archery shooting

Somehow I came across a video of a World Cup archery match. Question: what is that thing I have circled for? It flips down just before they release the arrow.

Probably has to do with his draw length

It is a clicker. Tells the archer when to release the arrow.

Its a clicker, when that slides off the arrow it clicks and he releases the shot. That way he knows he's at the same draw length every time.

Yep. Set your shot up, begin engaging more dynamic back tension, and when it clicks, the hand relaxes to let the shot go.

Team USA was eliminated yesterday in the mixed event. Brady shot poorly, for.the number one archer in the world, and the Texas girl had some really bad shots. Pretty shocking collapse, but that's archery. Hopefully they'll have it back together for men's and women's team events.

I saw they were eliminated. Pretty disappointing women’s air rifle match also. Mary Tucker (#2 in the world) could only manage a 6th place finish. Very good friend Ali Weisz pulled off a 14th place finish which was about on par for her. After our London finish (gold) I had high hopes for this year.

I think you have to use these new fangled apps for a lot of it. They can't make it easy for us old folks Billy.

The events are itemized with Roku…and a subscription. I tried to access the archery portal earlier.

Mixed final is on nbc now. Korea v. Netherlands. Amazing to me how often they hit that grapefruit-sized 10 ring at 70 meters

The South Koreans just won the gold. Great final round with one 9 and 7 bulls eyes.

If you have a subscription that allows access to NBC online, you can watch replays of any coverage. Sadly, I don't. But, I had an alarm set to get up at 2:30am this morning and watch the mixed team medal matches live on NBCSN. Below is a link to the archery coverage schedule.

Looks like Japan knocked out the USA in the quarterfinals for the team event last night https://results.nbcolympics.com/arch...finals/2153307
Poor showing for USA archery so far compared to Rio.

It sucks the games got delayed a year, Ellison had a career year an was on top of his game coming into last year, hope he can pull it together and still get the Gold in the individual event.

That guy from Korea is nuts with all the screaming, shooting discipline events competitors are usually super chill, the air rifle people look like they are about to go to sleep, I think the idea is to keep your heart rate down. I just wish someone would knock off South Korea, getting sick of them winning every olympics. And no they don't have a compound division yet, archery was added in 1988.

Whew! Glad it's not what I thought.

From the title, I thought someone started randomly shooting folks with a bow at the Olympics.

Nope. First they say it isn't different enough from recurve bows. Then they say it isn't traditional archery enough. Then they say some countries can't afford the compound bows - let me tell you, recurve bows for that level are more expensive than compound bows!! I don't know why it isn't allowed in the Olympics but it has something to do with World Cup Archery organization.

Alex Trebek: “Peas and carrots, chicken fried steak and mashed taters, South Korea and Olympic archery gold.”

Answer: What are two things that will always go together?

Get used to the over the top shouting South Korea Olympic archer, Kim Je-deok is a 17-year-old. He will be putting arrows into the Olympic 10 ring while many of us will be putting our teeth in.

Glad they are showing some archery, and I really don’t care who wins, I just dig watching those arrows fly.

Yep. It has to do with Hoyt being around longer than most others. In Europe and Asia, archery is as popular as American football is here. It's televised live in Europe for all events. It's a tough market for all brands to get into. Other popular brands are Win-Win and Uukha.

Interesting, why are they not in the compound bow market, and what is the compound bow/crossbow industry size compared to the competition recurve industry? Its weird when you go to a fishing industry show you realize how much a drop it the bucket freshwater bass fishing is to the entire saltwater industry.

You may be old enough to remember Darryl Pace winning with a Wing bow.

What would mess me up is other players talking and the coach talking to me while aiming, I find that odd, not to mention the shot clock. That USA coach like to jibber jabber. They are about to start the first round on individual eliminations on nbcolympics.com

Ahh. That explains why they were showing rugby last night when it was supposed to be archery coverage.

Gene Curry told me once, "If people talking bothers you, you're not concentrating hard enough."

Brown on the women's side and Ellison on the mens side made it to the round of 16, both shoot around 8pm today. Some of the mens round of 64 have still to be shot, schedule is confusing
