Default Things to do in Seattle and Vancouver

I'm heading to Seattle for work in Aug, going to stay a few extra days then drive up to Vancouver for a few days and fly home from there.. any recommendations would be helpful! I'll do Pikes for sure, I'd like to go catch some salmon to send home as well. I bought my mom a ticket to join me in Seattle after my work event is over so hiking Mt Si might be out of the cards on this trip

Vancouver Island is amazing. Tons of hot women all over downtown Vancouver. Like really hot. Better than Dallas, Houston or LA. It was unreal.

Car museum definitely cool; also not far from Mt. Ranier; lots of waterfalls to hike to and photograph if you like that; Space Needle; whale watching tour; Rock and Roll Museum.

What are you interested in seeing? Both Seattle and Vancouver have a lot of things to interest just about anyone. Any hints?

Mt Rainier National Park and drive up to Paradise, get out, and partially climb the snow up Mt Rainier - staring to the South.

Take the Bainbridge Island ferry over to the West Sound, snag some lunch and coffee in Poulsbo and then drive over to Port Townsend. Check that out then run west to Fossil Beach and the Pacific Ocean. That will run you along the Straits of Juan De Fuca - south shoreline and skirting the North end of the Olympic National Forest - Hurricane Ridge area.

The Fossil Beach. Rialto Beach & Shi Shi Beach areas are there near Cape Flattery - the entrance to the Puget Sound via the Straits of Juan de Fuca.

And once your on the Olympic Peninsula, you will see Roosevelt Elk feeding enroute as well as snow capped mountains, so vertical, you think your rolling in the Swiss Alps.

And over on that side, you can then roll to the Hoh River, which runs west, out of the Olympics and empties directly into the Pacific. Rolling up the Hoh, you will find the Hoh Rainforest.

At Rialto Beach, you will see virgin redwood tree trunks, laying half buried in the beach and adjacent cliff. These are trees from hundreds of years ago, so massive, you will never wrap your head around their size and magnitude. And witnessing these relics of America, before the loggers cut them all down, you will gain a clear understanding of how unbelievable these trees once were. These trunks are literally 15ft off the ground and they have been salt treated by the Pacific for so many decades, their decomposition is literally stopped.

These trees probably naturally fell along cliff edges, the Pacific gathered them up, and they ended up as driftwood in the places where they lay now along that beach.

Get the heck out of Seattle! There is more on the West side of the Puget sound than the East. Once you go over the top of the Cascades, you roll into a high plain that turns into a semi-arid plain with no trees - all sage and not much to see beyond the Cascades eastward.

But west of the Puget Sound - you will see the Olympic Mountains to the east of Seattle. It is there, the diversity of the Ocean, Forests and Mountains, with hundreds of clear water streams full of cut-throat and salmon are found.

I lived in Silverdale for near 4 years - which is the West Puget Sound area. Kitsap County to be exact. The Olympic mountains were my view from the front window of our living room. I roamed that side heavily and enjoyed it better than the side east of the Sound. It's unique and it's the only place in the world where you will see Roosevelt Elk. Blacktail deer, black bear, cougar and wolves roam.

I hunted and fished it heavily - it is **** near Heavenly!

Forgot to add...you can take the car ferry over from Port Angeles to Victoria British Columbia too. I used to take my family over every year just to spend a day in Victoria. The United Kingdom settled that shoreline as the Yanks, settled the Washington Shoreline during the late 1700s - early 1800s. Tons of history from that era there. You will still see London Buses there as well as some remnants of the British Culture.

Some of the coolest, fully restored steamships and early American\Canadian maritime vessels reside in Victoria harbor. Solid wood, hand built with engines, restored from their respective eras. Others are sailing vessels, no power or marginal power. Just witnessing that flotilla, from another time, it's another cool thing to take in.

Seattle is neat. Lots of cool bars and good food. Pikes place could take a half day easy.

St. Helens was neat but its been 30 years since Ive been there. Could hit the boat docks also or ride down to Redwood national forest also.

You need passport.

Victoria BC is cool for a day trip. The ferry is the best part. Take the one that allows cars on it. Goes slower and you can sight see more.

Vancouver go to the suspension bridge. Also look on line to see about a train ride up to Whistler.

Seattle do the market and a duck tour.

Since you're going solo theres a Rick's in Seattle that I had a great time at. Was there with a friend of mine who just became a multi-millionaire from a startup getting acquired. We spent a lot of money there and got to stay until daylight for the after the club closed party.

Oh market and duck tour was with the family so not near the story value as the trip with my rich friend...

I've been wanting to circle back around on this thread for a long time. This trip to Seattle back in 2017 turned out very interesting.

I made the trip to Seattle and had a good work week. My mom came and visited for a few days as I was wrapping up my work responsibilities. We got to hike Rattlesnake Ledge and eat at some super cool restaurants in Bellevue near Seattle. It was a great few days and then mom headed back to TX.

I had planned to head to Canada for the weekend. That fell through and I decided to extend my stay in Seattle/Bellevue. I went for a run and did a few things around town and actually ran into an old friend of mine at the same hotel. We visited a while but he was busy leading the conference he was there for. I decided to give online dating a try and see if I could find someone cool to go to dinner with or find an adventure over the weekend.

Bingo.. I met Carly. She is from Ellensburg in central Washington and basically awesome in every way. We immediately hit it off and had a great weekend.

Fast forward 3 years later, we have been dating long distance since. We traveled together a ton and would meet up in San Antonio, New York, Chicago, 2 trips to the hunting ranch in Rocksprings, we went over seas to Portugal and the next year to Slovenia, Vienna and Budapest. We would see each other at least once a month in TX or I'd go to WA and our relationship grew.

Last summer I lost the job I've had for a decade during Covid. We turned this crap situation into something awesome. I decided to make the move. After a few months living in her tiny apt I landed a great job. In October, We bought a house in a suburb as far from Seattle as we could get but still within reason of a commute if necessary.

During this time I've made some cool friends and even have got to do a little hunting out in eastern Washington. We have a group of guys that love pheasant and quail hunting. We probably went 8 times over the winter. So much fun!

The big news, on July 4th a few weeks ago on a hike near beautiful Leavenworth, WA I asked her to marry me. She said Yes! Our adventure continues! Carly and her family are amazing.

I think it's so cool that this little work trip a few years ago completely changed everything!

We were there 3 years ago and enjoyed Pike Market , you can literally fill up on samples of salmon and fruit /vegetables from the various vendors. Not sure how it is post COVID . Mt. Saint Helens is well worth the trip , stop into the museums along the road inside the park , lots of the locals who experienced the eruption work inside and are happy to share their experience. If you don’t mind venturing into downtown look up the Underground Seattle tour, it’s very interesting stories and facts about Seattle. There is also a mining museum in downtown that’s worth stopping in.
We avoided the space needle while we were there because it was overrun with homeless tents. It’s really a shame what’s happened to such a beautiful city , but if your careful and watch your surroundings you can still have good time.

Congrats Rosco!!! Couple of things.... is the Jeep in WA? And I assume that is why there have been no updates!?!?! Dang women. Lol.

As you well know. Pikes market is amazing. I could live off the smoked salmon and donuts there. Took a trip up there about 1.5 months ago. Stayed on Vashon Island a couple days. I enjoyed the trip for sure. Oh and all the fresh fruit!!!

Don't forget the wall of gum!! Haha
