Default Got Shingles any advice?

Found out Wednesday I have the Shingles. Anyone that has had them have any advice or home remedies? I've had about 6 hours of sleep total in the last 4 days. The rash is on most of the left side of my head/scalp and some on my face. So far it feels like I have a headache constantly that changes in intensity, an ear infection and a dry itchy eye. There is a lot of tingling/burning sensation with the occasional stabbing feeling in some areas.

If you are old enough to get the preventative vaccine I would highly recommend it after dealing with this.

My grandad got it and said it was the worst pain of his life, not trying to scare ya just letting you know. I don’t remember him ever saying anything about a remedy, but I know he couldn’t wear his shirts 80% of the time with his being on his back, because just the cloth brushing it would set it off.

I’ll send some prayers for you

I've had them. Hope your doc gave you some pills that should help. Good luck. They are way up there on the pain scale.

Had it about 2 years ago only on my back and only on one side, caught it early and went to the doctor. Think she got me on antibiotics and pain relievers was not to bad, I was only 42. Hope it goes away quickly for ya.

Been there, done that

Follow doctors orders , use OTC Benadryl lotion to stop the itching. Pretty sure I was prescribed 7-10 days of Valtrex ??

When I was around 50 I had it on the side of my face and top of the head. Kind of looked like Gorbachev. Make sure it doesn't get near your eye as you could lose it. I ended up with damage in one eye to where I can't wear a contact and on occasion it takes on a life of it's own and floats around.

I was prescribed some medication and hydrocodone. I can see why folks get hooked on that stuff. After a couple of weeks it went away.

If you ever had chicken pox as a kid, that virus lurks in your system and decades later sprouts up again as shingles. There is a two stage vaccine for it that is very effective

If you ever had chicken pox, you carry the shingles virus. That is probably the only 2 shot vaccine I have and will ever take as an adult. I have known several people with shingles, and I know I dont want it.

I went to urgent care because when I had it, it was by my eyes and scalp. Md live online doc prescribe a steroid cream that did not help. So when I went to urgent care doctor took one look said classic shingles. Told me not to use the steroid cream by my eyes as can cause your eyes to swell. Not sure what he prescribe but it did wonders within 24 hrs. I would not wish shingles on anyone that sh*t was painful as all get out

Was told stress among other things can set it off. I got shingles during the first lockdown of covid when we had to close our business so stress was definitely there.

Go see the doctor is you havent already. Seriously, shingles in or near your eyes can be serious.

Only thing that worked for me was prescribed nerve blockers like gabapentin and tramidol or hydrocodone.

Iím on an antiviral, oral steroid and gabbapetin for nerves. I have found Benadryl spray and Calladryl will knock the itch out a bit. I am concerned about the eye as I have a blister that is between my eye and nose.

I had the vaccine and still got it. Was on my right arm and I spent a fair amount of time with my arm in the freezer to calm the burning. Go to the doc and they will give you Valtrex or equivalent and in about a week you will be fine. Feel for ya as that stuff is horrible.

I was getting them in my chest after bouts of asthma and bronchitis. Usually while I was on steroids for the bronchitis. It would burn the insides of my chest. I would stay up days without sleep due to the pain. The doctor would offer me any type of pain medication I wanted. Once I learned how to keep control of my asthma and have not had to use steroids to knock bronchitis fire ups down the shingles have stayed at bay.
Be careful with the doctors suggestions on pain management.

I was told to wait until I’m 50 to get the shingles shot.

Im not a believer in vaccines, so only or a near natural remedy is best...that said i just had shingles... knocked it out with Olive Leaf Extract, Collidial Silver, also uped my Vit D3, and C.. Topically dry it out with hydrogen Peroxide or Rubbing Alcohol... Topical wont fix, but be cured from the inside.

A pain management doctor might be able to give you a shot that will give you a lot of relief from the associated pain. Depends on location

We have treated several people with shingles at work.

IT guy had them on his face and head and we got him a whole bunch of relief by giving him a couple of shots

I felt insect biting sensation on Saturday morning two weeks ago in 1 spot on my right torso, in the evening I had about 8 blisters. On Sunday they were larger and had a second spot starting on my spine. Monday evening after mowing the 1st set of blisters were rather large so I poked them and sprayed peroxide. The fizzing was instant. On Wednesday evening I noticed more rashes starting. I kept cleaning and spraying peroxide. Googled it and figured it was shingles. Thursday I saw the doc and he prescribed prednisone and a antibiotic. By Friday the rash with the peroxide treatment was beginning to dry out and blisters were minimal. All the other symptoms and sensation were there. Doc also gave me pain pills an I took one Friday nite and insomnia set in. Didnít take anymore as the pain and discomfort was tolerable. Maybe the peroxide helped. The doctor didnít say anything when I shared my home remedy. Today 2 weeks later all are dried out but the tingle and sharp pains come and go a few times a day. Take it easy. Good luck.

I have had them for 10 months in my left arm and hand. Blisters have been gone for months, Calimine lotion for blisters works. Sever pain in arm and hand gone. Now I have 2 numb, tingling, fingers and some hand pain. I just got my first of two shingle shots to keep it from coming back, I hope. The shot has set me back about 2 months. I have been on about everything for pain Med. , not much help. Dr. said if you have had them for 7 of 8 months you will most liky have them for life. I have gotten ust to the pain a little, and try to do what I have done in the past with my hand. No pain management for me, Shot only lasts a short time. I don't want to get my nerve ends burned also.

Shingles for life isn't accurate. Its permanent nerve damage caused by shingles Its called PHN (postherpetic neuralgia). Perhaps thats what he's referring to?

I have had them twice...around my rib cage. Terrible pain. My wife and I got the vaccine a few yers ago.

I don't recall what I was given, if anything, when I had my 2 cases of the virus.

I strongly recommend that folks who have had chicken pox get the vaccine..along with the Covid vaccine!
