I started getting this buck on camera in August and posted up the pics to see what the "green screen" consensous was. I was told everything from a 3.5 to 6.5.
Well after three attempts and not seeing him I decided to give it another shot and hunt Sunday evening instead of heading home after the morning hunt. The camera showed he had been there the last couple of evenings at 6:00 and I figured if he showed up that early I could take him and still get back to San Antonio fairly early.
The bucks two running buddies; young bucks that look like his offspring; showed up at 6:20 and he still hadnt showed. At 6:50 one of the young bucks looked up and there he was; commence heart beating out of chest...
He jumped in the pen and milled around the far left side; I wanted him to move to the right side of the pen but he ended up getting as close as 8 yards to the ground blind while facing directly at me. Time was ticking and I was pretty much committed. He finally moved to 23 yards and slightly quartering away.
The Rage was released right into the lower shoulder in an attemt to blow up the heart. He clipped the top of the panel and did not make it another 50 yards as one of the young bucks looked on with bewilderment trying to figure out what he was doing.
Weighed in at 170lbs and 6 points. we are thinking 6.5 to 7.5 years old and a perfect canidate for the "Cull Club".
