Deer hunting, but ultimately buying to pass on to my son some day. Wanting to start a tradition with the rifle and have a family gun that gets passed down through generations.
Most rifles are shooters these days. I would drive down the Scheels and handle Browning, Bergara, Tikka and CA in your price range. If stretching I would handle the Sako also.
If you are going to pas it down it won’t matter the brand. What will mater is the memories it holds. I have a JC Higgans.22 that is worth more to me than any custom rifle you could have built. Don’t overthink it. Take your son hunting and use the rifle.
I’ve had two Weatherby Vanguard S2 rifles and both were stupid accurate. They out shot me.
My bro in-law has a Tikka and loves it.
If I were getting teady to buy a new rifle with a $1,500 budget, I’d definitely go with a less customy factory type rifle in the mid to lower price range so I could spend more money on the scope.
