I believe they built it that way just so you'd have to come back to buy something

I learned early to replace the impeller in my Mastercraft inboard early in my ownership of the boat. And I always had a spare with tools in a bag ready to change out when needed. Being stranded because of an impeller stinks!

          Dang how old was it?

On my Merc they will curve but I have never had a fin break.

When an impeller fails like that where do the pieces go? Was overheating the only indication of failure, or did it cause the bottom end to be noisy also?

Is there an option for a beefier replacement, or just plastic?

I once was told by mechanic that the peices get into block water jacket's. He took my entire power head apart to remove. So he said...I always thought BS.

If the impellers break off, they will go into the engine, but they may or may not cause problems. Hard to say, they may wind up lodged where they do not cause any problem, they may pass right through the engine or they may get stuck somewhere and restrict water flow. The last would be bad.

I was just telling the wife its time to bring the boat in and get that replaced.

Its been more than 2 years and I don't want to get caught.

No idea where the broke of pieces could have gone.

My dad hasn't changed his in 20 years, crazy sucker ... but he never runs it dry or turns it over with out water flow...

I change mine every 4 or 5 years. Just watch your PSI, it'll let you know when it needs to be changed.

Wouldn’t your water pressure guage show less pressure?
