From the movie in which he recited this:

    Eldorado
    BY EDGAR ALLAN POE
    Gaily bedight,
    A gallant knight,
    In sunshine and in shadow,
    Had journeyed long,
    Singing a song,
    In search of Eldorado.

    But he grew old—
    This knight so bold—
And o’er his heart a shadow—
    Fell as he found
    No spot of ground
    That looked like Eldorado.

    And, as his strength
    Failed him at length,
    He met a pilgrim shadow—
    ‘Shadow,’ said he,
    ‘Where can it be—
    This land of Eldorado?’

    ‘Over the Mountains
    Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
    Ride, boldly ride,’
    The shade replied,—
    ‘If you seek for Eldorado!’

Seriously? A nice Jewish boy with mob connections?

Former Gambino family underboss turned FBI informant Salvatore 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano claimed the late James Caan was connected to the infamous Colombo mob family.

Yes that was Rio Bravo which actually came out first in 1959 with the Duke, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and Ricky Nelson.
El Dorado came out in 1966 with Duke, Robert Mitchum, Arthur Hunnicut and James Caan.
Basically the same movie but when your John Wayne everyone in Hollywood wanted to make a picture with him. And since whatever he did was pretty much a hit, then why not?
