My grand paw was a machinist in 1890. Got most of his tools and chest...

What a treasure you have! Especially since it’s been in your family for generations.

As for furniture restoration specialists, you might call the curators of some of the collecting history museums in your part of the state. Actually, I once worked on an exhibit with the folks at the Winedale Historical Center which, as their website states, is a collection of “10 nineteenth-century wooden structures, period furnishings, material culture, and an outstanding collection of Texas hand-crafted decorative arts. It was assembled by Houston philanthropist Miss Ima Hogg and then gifted to The University of Texas at Austin in 1967.”

With one of the largest collections of early 19th century Texas furnishings, surely the have a number of restoration specialists on speed dial.

Good luck! I would think this would be an exciting project and I love your idea to display the toolbox and its contents!

          Very nice.
A few years ago (30-40) I could of recommended several folks who worked on old furniture. Unfortunately they are all gone now. My parents had a lot of antiques. A few of which I inherited.
I will be the odd one and hope you can find someone to give it a little restoration.

This is the very bottom. Filled with more antique tools.

So just made a cool discovery. Since the lid hinges are broken off I never looked at the underside of the lid. Score. Theres a metal pin latch that frees them. The inside is in amazing shape. Really wanting to restore the exterior now but not anything drastic. Light restoration that keeps the integrity of the item intact.

I'd put a piece of glass on top of it and use it as a coffee table.

Clean it, oil it, fix what needs with the tools inside, and enjoy.

I have seen them discovered online completely loaded with the tools that came with it. They were like puzzles. Every tool has a spot.
