Question Barking dog deterrant

Folks this dog has been barking a lot. My wife sleeps during the day, when the dog doesnít wake her up. All this culminated yesterday when I went out in front of his home and literally screamed for him to shut the damm dog up.
I had gone to his house a couple of weeks ago, knocked on the door, rang the door bell with no answer. Cars were out front and behind the locked gate. This has been going on for months.
An hour later he shows up at my front door wearing a UFC Fighting Championship shirt. I went outside and we basically went at it, verbally. I did the real Christian thing and called him a punk arse bi ach. Went on for 39 minutes. At the end we shook hands and nothing was settled.
Do any of yíall know of an ultra sound deal that hurts dogs ears when the bark, or stops em from barking. Has to be effective over 100 feet away

Cities/towns have noise ordinances. Are you within a city limit where one would apply to you? If so, county sheriff or city PD can handle it for you.

Hook an airhorn up to a decibel meter at the fence set to 1 second bursts.

Just do something that severely annoys the neighbor, at night while they are trying to sleep

I've had two neighbors in a row in the house behind me with that type of dog. But more we can't be out in the yard without them being at the fence barking.
I like dogs. But it is normally an owner issue.
Fortunately I've been a to find a way to minimize the current neighbors dogs barking.
I agree with the noise issue and city regs. But be prepared if you open that can the tit for tat can be a pain.

The ultrasonic deterrents work ok.
UFC t shirt makes me laugh. You should have answered the door shirtless if you're of decent size.
Noise ordinance would be my thinking also. You will have to document all the times the dog is barking for real response from your local folks on that ordinance.
Put up a cam with sound recording.

Rig up a linear actuator at the fence that sprays essence of skunk when he barks or better yet, start a skunk trapping business. In all seriousness, the airhorn works well. Pavlov's dog theory works. Eventually the dog or owner will learn that barking equals airhorn.

Was typing on the go. Lasted 30 minutes. Basically he asked me what I wanted him to do, “put the dog down”? Me “ no I like the dog. My wife works all night and needs her sleep during the day”. “ Him “ do you want me to put a shock collar on him”? Me “yes”. “Not gonna do that”. “ What do you want me to do? Call the police”? Go ahead! I know all of em and they are not gonna do anything”!
On and on. I kept trying to refocus him on my wife needs to sleep and The dogs right to bark doesn’t supersede a persons right to peace and quiet. After that is when it all broke down for a while , I told him to get the hail off my property so he went and pontificated on my side walk till I walked out there and he began to back up.
He told me “ I’ve learned three things about you. Your wound tight, you’re very aggressive...”. And I can’t remember the last one. We bantered back and forth and that was it. So I’m gonna buy the one that Pillar recommended. If that doesn’t work I’m gonna get the police involved.
Folks, if your a Christian, don’t give the Devil the victory. Don’t let folks goad you into anything. What pizzed me off is I’m 65 having to got outside and deal with this bone head when three other houses are around him. Go figure. Where is Jer James when I need him?

Air horns work well. My neighbor has two little yapping arse dogs. If they bark at all now, I can just pick up the canister and they shut up.

Most of the time when dogs bark all day it's just because the flies are driving him nuts. Golden maldrin will fix that.

I have a dog like your neighbors. He is blood hound/catahoula cross and very loud. He ****** me off and I can only imagine what my neighbors think. I use a bark collar, it vibrates when he barks. He hates the collar but it does its job, he stays pretty quiet. He will still bark some but he has to be pretty wound up to do it.
It might be worth suggesting this type of collar if you and neighbor can have a productive conversation.

I’ll play devils advocate. Most people sleep at night and most work during the day. Noise ordinance generally applies after say 10PM. If your neighbor works during the day and leaves his dog outside, not much you can do legally. It’s his right for his animal to be outside on his property. I’ve worked nights and 24 hour shifts most of my life, so
I certainly sympathize. However, screaming at the dog and aggressively confronting the owner does nothing but put you in the wrong.

I’d try ear plugs and a fan for your wife.

I thought he might might be open to it since it is not a electrical shock collar. I think Pilar is the one that referred me to this collar, someone on the GS did. This one has the option to go electric or vibration. I would like to hear if the other works out.
Hope it works out

Yeah, it sounds like this is where you are, except personally, I would not hesitate to stay on the worthless owner's arse every time I was disturbed by the worthless dog! It sucks that people don't care if their dogs bark and create an extreme nuisance to their neighbors, but...there are some sorry people in the world. It is amazing that they don't care if they are disrupting their neighbor's sleep. We love our dog, but I would NOT keep her if she was a (constant) barker.

Good luck with your quest for peace.

Preciate all. And making no excuses. We both stated where we were at in the situation. And yes I do think it’s sorry that a man suggest a shock collar and then refuses. A shock collar only takes a couple of times to work them you can turn it off. Is what it is. You can’t tell me no one else isn’t bothered by a dogs incessant barking and took an old geezer to say something.

The bark boxes work ok, but if the dog barks too much it wears the batteries out quickly. Best bet is to get video/audio evidence built up and go file a complaint. The has to be a city ordinance in your town. I’d call and file complaints with code enforcement, police, animal control and whomever else will listen. Keep record of all contact and see where it goes. I was about 1/2 way through that process when we moved.

Get a fertilizer spreader full of red pepper, and keep it spread out near your house where they are likely to be, they will soon learn to stay away from the pepper zone

No help with the dog, but worked nights for years and wife still does. Between people mowing lawns, UPS trucks, trash trucks, kids playing, whatever.... we learned to put a fan in the bedroom and crank it up to drown out all the noises. Works great for us.

He barks a lot at delivery people, strangers, etc. and sometimes barks for 10-15 minutes. It’s not the dogs fault. Owner says he can’t or won’t do anything about it.

He doesn’t shop. So they received multiple deliveries all through November and December and prior to that you have the same people in a neighborhood everyone else has. Sux to be back in a subdivision after leaving 35 acres in the Wet Mountains.

This dog is a perfect example of irresponsible pet ownership. Neither the son who now lives in Lubbock, nor his mother spend any time with the dog. I can walk over to the fence and she becomes very submissive posture and shuts up. She needs some attention, not left in the back yard alone.

I take care of my Lab.
