patellar subluxation in my Border Collie

Basically, his left, rear knee cap won't stay in the patellar groove. I noticed him limping some, about three weeks ago, and it has gotten worse. Odd thing is that playing ball, chasing rabbits, etc. does not seem to bother him. Just limps after laying down.

Took him to the vet, today. Diagnosed with Stage 1 patellar subluxation, which is minor.

This is a 2 1/2 year old BC, that has already proven to be a good working dog. Can't put him with cows, if he is lame. So, we are going for the surgery to correct it, which should help prevent arthritis problems later.

    Anyone had experience with this?

Best of luck for your collie, they’re really great dogs-smart as heck.

My Lab was diagnosed at 3 yrs old with luxating patella .
      Couldn’t afford 6k surgery !
      He is 11 now .
Still limps, but what lab doesn’t after 8 yrs old?
Would love to have had surgery done but just couldn’t .
Best of luck with the procedure on your dog !

Had the same problem with one year old Chihuahua. Recovery from surgery took several weeks with no running or jumping. Other leg started to exhibit the same signs, but the problem eventually worked itself out. No signs of diminished capacity now. Good luck.

One of the best cow dogs I ever had only had three legs. They always figure out a way to get the job done
