Empire of the Summer Moon by S.C. Gwynne

I just finished this book the other day, and I have to say it's one of the best books I've read this year. Have any of you read it? If not, I would highly recommend it.

Yes, many of us have read it. And I agree with you, it's one of the best books I've read - ever.

All of these threads reference the book.

Started it again just to see what I missed the first time.

I'm glad to know this book is getting some circulation. I plan to read Gwynne's book on Stonewall Jackson at some point, too.

I read it about 4 years ago. Really great info on the Comanche life.

I have the audio book. I should give it a listen again. I think Jerp might have suggested it several years ago?

That book is a great read. If you're remotely interested in the subject, it's a must read.

It’s eye opening to say the least. I was a bit shocked and horrified at what actually went on...but found it extremely interesting and fascinating. My favorite part was how the Texas Rangers saved Samuel Colts butt.

                              That's an excellent book.....

If you enjoyed that, read this one.

The Comanches: Lords of the South Plains (The Civilization of the American Indian Series)
                              by Ernest Wallace et al.

A scholarly book written by ethnologists in the early thirties I believe. VERY readable and full of information on the day to day life of the Comanches.

T.R. Fehrenbach's book is also great: Comanches-History of a People

And if you want to read some interesting accounts of Comanche attacks along the Brazos, read Goodbye to A River by John Graves......If you're a Texan, just read it anyway. It shouldn't be missed.
