Just curious what type of setup folks have. Do you run one pin out to 30 or do you start at 20? Do you run pins all the way out to 80 or stop at 40, etc.? Are you a one pin guy/gal? Pro and cons of a few or many pins?

When I had multiple pins for hunting, I used 3. 20, 30 and 40. Too many clutters up the sight window and blocks area of animals that could be beneficial to see. Too few means you will inevitably get caught in the tweener range, and either shoot high, or miss low. I have seen it tons of times.
Now I went to a single pin for hunting and set it at 27 yards. Shoots within a 3 inch circle to 34 yards. Anything further than that, it walks without even drawing back. |

20,30,40,50,60 (5). Anything under 20 and the 20 pin is real close. I'd rarely shoot over 60 but have a decent idea of holdover out to 80.
The "clutter" of multiple pins can be pretty much a non-issue with .10 pins... |

One. You can kill whitetails over 30 yards. But ur gonna miss some, kill some and wound some. Got nothin to do with your shooting skill. Just the reaction of a whitetail. There is not a bow fast enough or quiet enough that they cant make a fool out of. Thats based on 25 years bowhunting experience. Not hear say.

1 pin set at 25yrds. I can hit 3" from 10-32 yrds. I range a 30yrd circle of death from stand. Once they enter that its all over with but the dragging.

I have 5 but only because my bro-in-law and i have off-season friendly wager tournaments and never know what you will need!
That being said, if an animal is over 40 yards it walks. And for me to shoot past 35 it has to be the last day of the season and i need meat!!! |

I have 7 on my sight right now, but only have only 4 sighted in, 20, 30 40 and 50 yards. Normally I have it sighted in out to 80 yards, but with a lack of practice at longer distances, I have limited myself to 50 yards max under perfect conditions. When I bring my pins to a target i come up from the bottom so it is easy for me to count pins, 20, 30, 40 and so forth. The only time I used all 7 pins at once was on a 3x3 bull elk in CO I shot at 4 yards, all the pins fit perfect on his side!!!!!!!!

I set 1 at 20. I can shoot out to 40 with it. I do shoot a slider. Bout out to 40 i dont have to move it on targets. Ive shot so many years like that its become second nature were to hold. All that said, if its a stinkin black buck or a hog. I'll shoot em as far as i can see em. I can get my slider out to 90yds. Whitetails. Im 25 yard max.

My sight has 5 pins (20,30,40,50,&60) I practice out to about 70 yards, but come hunting season, I slide my bottom 4 down all the way and only use the 20. I don't shoot at game beyond 20-25 yards so removing the pins helps to remove to temptation to shoot further. Plus, I wont accidentally look at the wrong pin by mistake.

7 here.
20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 Take shots you are comforable with some people that is 10 yards some 50 yards or more. It took some getting use to the 7 because I switched from a single pin but think the 7 is a better option for the hunting I do. |
